Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
Very nice review indeed.
I would just like to make a few comments on some specific points: - The reviewer correctly notices the very annoying behaviour of the hang-up key, which disconnects GPRS/3G before putting the device on stand-by, and correctly mentions how this is very annoying with direct push. However he mentions a number of third-party based solutions to this, which are totally unnecessary, as you can just press-and-hold the hang-up key, and then press select. This will call the Profile application and action the first choice, which is stand-by with no data disconnection. Still something to remember, but definitely you do not need third-party software!
- On the left led, he reports that the green flashing light is only used for direct push email. This is not true, as the green flashing light is used for ANY new email, while the blue light is uses for all other non-email-related notifications. This is also described in the manual.
- On the £ sign, he claims that you need to press-and-hold the symbol key and select it from there. Not true. Just press the $ sign, and then press the symbol key twice (the first time you'll get the Euro, the second the pound). This behaves exactly like for accented letters, and is a behaviour copied from the Treos.
- The reviewer mentions the rubber plug covering the GSM antenna connector at the back of the device, and how it could be lost. However the packaging contains a spare one, together with the spare stylus.
- The reviewer says that Connectmobility-E2C is only a trial, and that after 30 days you need to purchase a license. This is not true, as after 30 days it will just revert back to the Standard edition of the software, with almost all of the same functionality. Rather, I would have noted how sluggish the unit becomes when WLAN is used through this software...
- On JBlend, I would add that I have installed Opera Mini, which also works perfectly.
Other than the above minor comments, it is a really excellent review.
