I found the same issues- the general slowdown was even noticable on the N560 with it's 625MHz processor.

Another gripe is that when the Smartbar is active, even as a side or top bar, you lose 1 or 2 lines of your today screen space (I think it is where SB 'pushes up' the original taskbar region, though it is masked by the skinning and can't be accessed)

Maybe a bit more development and optimisation will see this becoming a mainstream applcation.
