Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Comming from a Nokia N95, I've found the orbit 2 quite easy to get to grips with. I thought I'd give my own views on it compared to a N95 which I've used since it was launched last April.

Battery
The orbit supasses the N95 by miles with the battery life. I was lucky to get a full day use out of the N95 with lite to moderate usage. If I used the GPS and internet regularly, the battery would be dead within 4-5 hours. The Orbit lasts on average 2-3 days. When I'm duty and hammer the internet for fun, the Orbit has lasted aprox 9 hours before needing a recharge. Big thumbs up for the Orbit

GPS
The orbit wins hands down. It gets a lock before I realise it. I've got the car cradle set up and by the time I get the car started and CD inserted, the orbit's GPS is ready to go. With the N95, GPS lock normaly took 1-2 minutes providing you stood still. Sometimes it would take upwards of 10 minutes to get a decent lock.

Cusomisability
I love that the WM6 can be customised just like the Symbian OS on the N95. I've already installed a few applications, including scummVM for my Monkey Island fixes

Phone Calls / SMS
Apart from taking an extra button/screen press or two, making a phonecall is just as easy as on the N95

Internet
The N95 wins my view on this area compared with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6, The n95 would go onto the full internet where as IE will by default take me to wap/pda versions of sites. Opera Mini is easily installed and gives me the full internet as I had on the N95. The N95 wins because this "feature" came built into the phone and I didn't need to download any 3rd party applications like I had to with the Orbit

Camera
N95 wins by miles. The n95 camera is so much better than the Orbit for both pictures and video recording. As I have a decent Digital Camera I'm not too put off by this, but if your used to the decent video & pictures from the N95 you will be disapointed with the Orbit.

Touchscreen vs Keys
Like I said on the first line, the orbit is very easy to get to grips with. The touch screen is nice and responsive (even more so with a little registry edit ). I thought it would be a bit wierd going from a keypad to touchscreen, but after the initial ooer, its all good

And thats it, My little review comming from a Ex-Nokia N95 user. Hope it helps other "normal" mobile phone users think about getting the Orbit 2
