Re: Spb Mobile Shell 2.0: Review
I currently have an Orbit 2 with Pocket Plus 4 and Pocket Breeze as a plug-in on its own Pocket Plus Tab. This combination gives me pretty much what i want - Whatever tabs / shortcuts / plug-ins i want on one screen and a 30 day diary with 1 tap and a glance. Anything else is pretty much only one Tab-tap away.
I Installed Mobile Shell 2 (trial) this morning and have spent some time playing with it. It is very quick and impressive - especially the speed of the screen flips. It is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into it.
However... I am very frustrated by the inability to customise the Now screen. For instance, i would hope to be able to tap the calender display and launch pocket breeze - instead it opens the boggy WM6 calender and i cant see a way to change this. (maybe SPB Diary would integrate here ?, but i prefer Pocket Breeze)
The lack of GPRS / 3G traffic indicator on the taskbar is also a bit worrying - i have an unlimited Data bundle, but even so i want to be able to see when an app is deciding to connect.
The other major stumbling block for me is the lack of customisation flexibility available for the Tabs in the Mobile Shell Today Plug-in - with a few more options, i could use it as a replacement for Pocket Plus - but not as it currently stands.
There is hope in the fact it is a new product (and a mightily impressive one at that) with the facility to embrace third-party plugs-ins when they appear, but for now i am uninstalling it and going back to Pocket Plus.
Regards
Michael
