Re: HTC Diamond - Full Orange press release

I'm not sure we'll officially see DVB-T in the UK. Our TV licensing system doesn't work with that model. In Germany for example using DVB-T is not free - you pay a subscription for each TV set you own. That can easily be applied to a DVB-T mobile device or a PC with a DVB-T encoder.

In the uK we may be able to bypass subscription fees by buying an unlocked/unsubsidised DVB-T mobile device from abroad, to get access to the basic UK Freeview channels, but don't expect the UK mobile operators to offer them. Technically it won't be legal.

The European commission has already decided that DVB-H will be the standard. The licensing issue for mobile devices will work because the mobile networks can charge a subscription for a mobile TV service and incorporate a license fee into that. This type of service has the potential to access any channels you want.

Back on topic - the HTC Diamond does look very nice!
