no, it shouldn't matter because you're "compiling" the driver to make it work for your ubuntu version.... so if it compiles on your ubuntu, it should be usable on your ubuntu version.

So, can you confirm when you compile the last driver, doesn't it give you any errors?

also, when you type the following in the terminal:
sudo modprobe r8180
can you tell me what message you get?
