Possible HTC Class Action

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the speed and responsiveness of the HTC Kaiser and its operator variants (T-Mobile Vario III, AT&T Tilt etc) especially with regard to the graphics handling within videos.

As a result a group have got together to press HTC to resolve their issues with the possibility of pressing a "Class Action" against HTC if this fails to achieve their wishes.

There is a web site HTCClassAction.org that details the problems and current state of play.

I have detailed the current devices that they believe are affected and if you own of them then you might want to check out the site and make your own decision.

HTC TyTN II (MSM7200), also known as:
  • HTC Kaiser
  • T-Mobile MDA Vario III
  • AT&T Tilt
  • Vodafone v1615
HTC Touch Dual (MSM7200), also known as:
  • HTC Nike
HTC Touch Cruise (MSM7200), also known as:
  • HTC Polaris
HTC Wings (MSM7200), also known as:
  • HTC S730
HTC Titan (MSM7500), also known as:
  • Sprint Mogul PPC-6800
  • Verizon XV6800
HTC Vogue (MSM7500), also known as:
  • HTC Touch P3050 (this is not the normal HTC Touch)
  • Sprint Touch
  • Verizon Touch XV6900
HTC Libra (MSM7500), also known as:
  • HTC S720
HTC Iris (MSM7500), also known as:
  • HTC S640

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

Seems like a storm in a teacup to me. I'd be surprised if HTC really care whether video plays seamlessly or not. They say they have 4,000 signatures, which is good, but apparently HTC has shifted a over million Touch's alone.

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

I have seen the site and the petition on xda-developers, but I have no problems with video files on any of my devices using TCPMP, I think the concern is more the graphics chip is not used to the max for games etc. I am sure if HTC are that concerned they will have the troubles fixed on the next rom releases.

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

I'm with Boz (and others) on this one - for me it does what I want it to do.

I can understand why the developers are kicking up a fuss - they have hardware that is not working to its full potential and they want to be able to get the most out of it.

I cannot see HTC doing anything about this though. Like we all know, if HTC made the "perfect" device (which would still not please everyone!) then they would never be able to have sales on alternative devices (comapre the Polaris with Kaiser).

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

I totally agree with the comments so far. I find my Kaiser works very well with video (regularly watch divx tv episodes) but I don't really use it as a games device.

However, there have been some posts regarding the general response of the device so felt that the information was newsworthy and where people felt the need they could act accordingly.

I have signed the petition as a matter of community spirit but cannot personally see HTC doing anything until the rumoued 6.1 ROM release.

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

There are similar petitions going around for devcies that do have the supposedly superior ATIImageon Graphics driver.

For some reason, ATI won't release the full operating spec of the Imageon to HTC, so it doesn't run in true hardware acceleration mode.

The problem is that most users aren't trancoding their content to a form consistent with the processor and memory capabilities of the devices.

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

Agreed here this will come to nothing HTC have the clout to ignore it completely. Plus as Neil says without ATI releasing all the required data to HTC I'm not sure anything can be done anyway!

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

Also this has been going for some time now over on XDA. And only now it has become newsworthy....

I'm with everyone else on this. These devices are not for high quality video. If you want that then get a HD DVD system with a Plasma for your living room..... my two cents though.

Re: Possible HTC Class Action

I cant see any of the cited issues affects me at all - I cant replicate either of the main issues relating to Video touch screen/Camera and the rest are in my opinion only likely to affect those really pushing the device to the limit - e.g. gaming, which I dont do anyway. Overall I am very happy with my Touch Dual.
