There is another GMAIL-IMAP-Idle solution. Home HERE, discussion thread HERE
As I understood it do not requires extra client - I haven't tested it yet
EDIT: Forgot to mention really wonderful solution (opensource) - Funambol
It do not uses Idle, but push-like technology. You can configure your pop3 or Imap accounts to sync mails, contacts, calendar

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
Hi John, many thanks for the comprehensive descrition of the service. The advantage MailShadow has over IMAP idle is that it syncs Calendar & contact data as well.

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
More interestingly for you and I Jim I think is this line:
Quote:
MailShadow for Google Apps allows one to run Gmail and Exchange concurrently, affording the user the time to get comfortable with the differences before switching, thereby easing the cross-universe transition.
|
The way I read it you could have both your work and personal email, with push functionality on the same device? I wonder how this would work with your contacts and calendar though. Does the Mailshadow client do all this?

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
Sounds impressive. One of the (very minor) drawbacks has always been that you can only synch one mail account at a time - unless you use some mail agregation service to pull all your mail accounts into one box. And then you have the problem of having to fake the sent-from address.

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
Maybe John could provide us access to the Beta and we can give it a review?

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
WaveyDavey,
Beta2 version of MailShadow for Google Apps only runs on Windows XP (Vista support soon) and requires that one is running Outlook (2003/2007) in cached Exchange mode. One can sign up with the program here: Cemaphore | MailShadow for Google Apps
Your download credentials will be emailed to your shortly after that.

Re: MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server
Any idea when the Vista implementation is coming? I'm an XP free zone now.
Also, can you just confirm that my assumption is correct? Could I use MailshadowG to run both my work email (exchange) and personal account (via Gmail) on the same device concurrently? How would calendar and contacts be affected? All bundled into the same container?

Now that sounds good. Could normal exchange sync be in the usual Outlook account and the GMAIL account in another created account?

Sorry to resurrect (sp?) an older thread, but I tried to install Darrens service/app and get an error message saying that the .NET CF on my device is older than that required by the app. I installed the .NET CF 3.5 from the Microsoft website and still I get the same message. Does anybody have an idea what I've missed?
The device is and XDA Orbit 2 running WM6.
If the .NET CF cn be downloaded as a CAB from anywhere else, it would make my life a lot easier as I do not normally have access to a Windows desktop...
Thanks for your help.
Stefan.
