Final Issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine

Hal Goldstein in his Blog has announced:

I have sad news. After 11 years, we will be publishing a final 2008 issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine and then suspend publication! We are working hard to make it the best Windows Mobile issue ever, a keeper, a reference guide. In 2009 we will publish Smartphone magazine’s iPhone Life.

A sad day indeed, I've worked with Hal in the past and been one of their Judges in the annual awards.

That will be sad, I was an occasional reader of the mag.

Re: Final Issue of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine

Basically the mag was kept financial during the PDA days through advertising from the likes of HP & Dell and the various software companies. However, as the PDA's fell by the wayside and the phone PDA took over the advertising did not come in. The new phone companies didn't market via the magazines and MS don't either.

It wasn't a regular purchase but I did get it when I saw it on a shelf, usually when in London or a bigger city, but it was a good and long read and always with some great and technically deep articles. The websites blogs are on my regular checklist and they have said that they will be staying - for the moment at least.

As Windows has said their annual awards was probably The Award list for the smartphone/pocket pc field. A real shame.
