Multi-Touch already possible?

It has been reported that a Chinese company Meizu, who specialises in making MP3 players, is preparing to produce a clone of iPhone called the "Meizu M8".

The demonstration video shown below clearly shows multi-touch being used.

However even though the Meizu M8 is not a Windows Mobile device it does however run using Windows CE as a basis - it is still a phone powered by Microsoft's operating system - Windows CE (here: Windows CE 6.0)

So is this the sign of good things ahead for Windows Mobile? Can we expect Microsoft to build similar support into Windows Mobile 7?

Only time will tell.

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

Interesting looking device and interface.

Some of that content looks a bit dodgy though

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

I personally don't like multi touch, and I think if the UI is written correctly it shouldn't be required. What do you guys think?

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

Oh I dunno, it can be very useful in certain apps as I've found on the iPhone.

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

I always thought, hmmm..... if they did it THIS way then they wouldn't need to use multitouch.

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

I think it depends on whether you are a one or two handed user of your devices. I tend to stick to two hands so the idea of multi-touch is quite attractive - although I agree it is not necessary.

However, I know a lot of people who are almost religious in their hatred of devices that can't be fully operated with one-hand whilst walking down the street, standing on a tube etc. To those, multi-touch is a symptom of all that is wrong with touch-screen devices.

I'm fairly apathetic to be honest.

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

There's quite an interesting "how it works" about Multitouch in this months Vista mag. I'll see if I can get it scanned if anyone is interested.

Re: Multi-Touch already possible?

I'm more in the anti-camp but not vocal!

I like to be able to use a device single-handed if that's all I've got available! Multi-touch can be a pain for that very reason, sometimes both hands aren't available and I do have issues trying to use the iPhone single-handed.....

That's why I like the D-Pad (or similar) on devices.....
