Nokia Brings Microsoft ActiveSync To Smartphones

Nokia announced Wednesday that it made a deal with Microsoft to enable Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync on 80 million Nokia phones. Users with Nokia phones equipped with the latest edition of S60 software will be able to access Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. Microsoft ActiveSync allows employees whose companies run Microsoft Exchange Server to access their e-mail, contacts, calendar, company directory and other information through their mobile phones.

"We take corporate and IT security policies seriously, and a comparison study showed that the device management and security policies for devices such as the Nokia Eseries are robust," said Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Markets, Nokia, in a statement. "This should give business heads and IT managers greater confidence when choosing between device brands to mobilize their workforce."

Nokia said in a statement that users who access Exchange ActiveSync with their Nokia phones will have access to features that other Exchange ActiveSync users don't, such as "setting email priorities, alerts for meeting request conflicts, a standalone global address list application to search for a colleague's contact details quickly, downloading and editing all types of attachments, not just image files."

Re: Nokia Brings Microsoft ActiveSync To Smartphones

Exchange Activesync certainly is becoming popular.

I wonder how well the S60 client actually works?

Re: Nokia Brings Microsoft ActiveSync To Smartphones

I've been using Microsoft Exchange with my Nokia E51 for about 3 months now.

Mail for Exchange (Mfe) has been around for a while which allows you to sync. We then use a company called AccessMyLan which performs the connection between the phones and the servers.

All we do is point the phone at AccessMyLan, we have a internal Agent running on two servers and well thats it - you actually get the mail on your phone before it arrives at your desktop.

Its a good product as for an all in price you get a VPN, ActiveSync and WebMail/WebFolders.
