Leather Carrying Strap and USB Charger
Keep your phone powered, up to date and secured with the USB Leather Hand Strap. This hand strap/USB charger powers your device without using a wallsocket, simply plug the mini-USB to your phone and the USB end on your PC and you're ready to charge and update. Laptop is not included. This is the claim made by Wireless Ground in reference to one of their newest products, a "USB Leather Hand Strap". How many times have you left home/work only to realize that you may not have fully charged your faithful companion? This reviewer has faced this scenario countless times. Well, I decided to put this "strap" to the test... I typically get about 5-6 hours of good use out of my TyTN, dependent upon the radio used, which means that I cannot last an entire work day without plugging in and recharging. Usually this is not a problem, but I removed my trusty charging cradle from the office, packed up my sync cable at home and decided to see what this thing could do. Suprisingly, it was up to the challenge. I was able to sync and keep my companion, "King TyTN" well energized anyplace I could find a usb port. My computer, a friend's or relative's, at the library, etc. It was just a matter of time before someone came up with this idea and actually did something about it. This product performed well, but there were a few issues with it. First, it wasn't entirely clear how to access the mini-usb and usb cable ends. I mean, I knew where they were, by looking at the picture,
but how to get to them? No instructions were included for what one would think would be common sense to open the small rectangular casing. Let's remember that common sense is not all that common. It is after all a learned behavior. After about 15 minutes trying to "carefully" open the casing, I was finally successful and was able to enjoy the product offering; however, after repeated use (approx. 8 - 9 times) I noticed that the split ring that attaches the leather strap to the metal casing became stretched. While this did not reduce the functionality, it did bring with it a little apprehension about trusting this expensive device to this now elongated split ring. I then replaced King TyTN into his trusty hip holster, with the "strap" still connected and carried it around that way for a couple of days. It still came in handy and has saved me from hours without power on several occasions already. Oh, did I mention the best way to open the casing to get to the cable ends? No? Well, all you have to do is firmly grasp the handle as close to the casing as you can, while holding the casing in your other hand and push. The first time will be the hardest, since the rest of the device seems to be well engineered and very sturdy. If you open it this way, you won't stretch the split ring like I did. Just consider this as an addition to your "common sense". Despite the simple items mentioned above, the device delivers as advertised and receives a 9 out of 10 score from this reviewer. If you would like to try this product out for yourself, you can see it on the web listed under, USB Leather Hand Strap. Re: Leather Carrying Strap and USB Charger
thanks for the great review, debonairone
i'd be a little worried about that split ring, but I suppose that is due to user error rather than wear and tear.
I'm still considering whether to get a small wrist lanyard for my device, but I tend to place it in it's case when not on my desk or in use and I think that is sufficient at the moment.
But I am now tempted to consider this... so many accessories so little time to buy them all!

Re: Leather Carrying Strap and USB Charger
As a lanyard user, I think this is a great idea. If only it weren't made of leather, I'd buy one.

Re: Leather Carrying Strap and USB Charger
Well, aside from actually reviewing this item, I was actually impressed with it... I was a bit concerned in the beginning, when I couldn't easily access the cable ends, but after getting it out the initial time, it was a piece of cake thereafter... I sent a note to the rep that sent it to me, hopefully he will pass along the comment regarding the split ring...
I can see where the leather may be a bit of an issue for prolonged use, but I think any other material (softer) would have a bit of a problem protecting the cable running through it...

Re: Leather Carrying Strap and USB Charger
Prolonged use isn't the issue. I'm a vegetarian, so I don't buy bits of dead cow. Do a plastic version and I'll buy it.
