Re: HTC Touch Review

Great review mate, not my cup of tea really as I can't live without a keyboard nowadays but good to see HTC trying to go for the consumer market in a big way.

I totally agree about the games by the way, it does seem a trivial thing to mention and I've shied away from having a proper rant in my recent hardware reviews but it is about time that more games were added, even extra modes in the current ones would help. Of course when I finally release Crania you will be able to add another free game on there yourself too

I am struggling with the price, I think they should have pitched it lower, even £50 off the price tag would have made it more palatable to me.

It's the same price as a new Smartphone
Not really sure about that, think you might be getting carried away pal The best smartphone I know of, the S710, is £50 cheaper and the brilliantly cheap and cheerful S310 is a steal by comparison at under £200. Admittedly the overpriced MTeoR, Toshiba's Protege phone and things like the Palm are more expensive but then there are other PDA phones available at a cheaper price than the Touch too (i.e. the admittedly flawed Glofiish range).

Oh, and it looks a bit wide

The s710 is £250 now, but it was £289.95 at release.......

Aye but if I buy one now it's still a "New Smartphone"

Not sure how important those would be in practice?

TomTom is happy running the application from an expansion card (freeing up 5MB internal memory) and push email isn't particularly data intensive, unless you are downloading attachments as well, so GPRS suffices.

Re: HTC Touch Review

Sorry if the above post messes up the scoring- I can't use a quoted reply without the Member Score opening up, and I don't have any experience of the device itself to score.

That's the way I see it in the review Neil. The fact is that 3G, GPS and faster procs are all nice, but the Touch WILL do all things the extras offer just a little slower (albeit with a BT GPS) but at half the size and twice the battery life. That to me makes perfect sense. Whether or not it's a compromise you're willing to make is a personal issue, but thems the facts.

Well by that logic in two months time this will still be a "new PPC" and you'll probably get that for £250 too then.
