Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review

Thanks for the speedy reply.

That sounds a much better system than the Tomtom one. Tomtom home now confuses things again, as you can only associate one device with each licence per 6 months. I get really fed up with this, as I actually have Licences for tt2, tt2, 2*tt5, 2*tt6, and I still find I have trouble whenever I get a new device.

I don't suppose they do a trial version with a reduced map or anything do they? As TT6 does work on my devices (at the moment) I don't want to splash out £80 on the off chance that this will suit me better.

As far as I know there's no trial version. Certainly there's no indication of it on the ALK site. That said it's not officially shipping yet.

Well, based on this review I have got the moths off the credit card and purchased it from Clove. Let's see if it's as good as it seems . I am just so sick of Tomtom and their attitude.

I'm sure you'll love it mate. It's a quality piece of kit and when the updates come it'll be awesome!

Well, if it's as good as you say then I will. Got to drive to Bristol on Wednesday, so will give it a good try out. The only thing I can see that Tomtom does better is the speed camera warnings when there is no route planned (as windows pointed out). Guess I'll have to keep TT on the Treo for the odd occasion I drive without a route planned.

...or buy a standalone Safety Camera warning package? We did a review of CamerAware last year, and it remains an excellent program for that purpose. A one-off fee of £19.99 covers lifetime program and database updates, and the database is updated every 3-4 weeks.

Does camera aware work ok with something like Copilot using the GPS device as well Neil?

TBH I don't know!

CamerAware coexists fine with TomTom, but not with iGO2006, as iGO grabs all the hardware resources- once it shuts down, CamerAware is still there in the background doing it's job, it just never gets screen focus. With TTN, CA will pop up when a camera is in range, then go to the background once it's passed.

As to whether any particular platform can share the GPS resources, that's also a moot point All WM5 onwards devices with GPS should have the sharing facility built in, but it isn't very robust, which is why I use GPSGate as the sharing utility (see our review from last week!); However even though GPSGate correctly shares the signal, iGO still won't let other apps take screen focus.

Maybe you could try it with CPL?

I must get Cameraware installed on the Ameo, as I use it as my primary SatNav device now.

Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review

So Far not-so-good.

It arrived this morning from Clove - excellent service. Installed OK, found the internal GPS in the Advantage, and then got a 3d sat fix.

Now comes the problem (and admittedly I've only been walking along the roads so far) but the position doesn't change on the screen when I walk half a mile down the road. I still have a red circle displayed at the starting point. I change the readout at the bottom to GPS coords, and can see that the GPS fix moves with me, but the map display doesn't move.

Anyone got any ideas?
