Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review
TomTom could have the best product in the world but for anyone with more than one device it's unworkable because of their rubbish licensing shenanigans. I wouldn't touch Tomtom with long stick personally for that reason.

In their defence though Dave, do most people change their device daily (Like Jim) or monthly (Like the rest of us mods here)? The CPL7 licensing model impresses me due to the fact that you can use the product on a SP or PPC platform without buying something else. But, as I use GPS mainly for getting home in the quickest time possible CPL7 will be bought for the Touch but not as my main GPS app. Would you really decide to take the v1615 out, and then deregister the Touch and register the v1615 on a whim? My understanding is that the practice of the TT licensing isn't quite so strict as 6 months from looking at the discussion on XDA-Devs.

Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review
TomTom are admittedly hot on their licensing, but I've never had a serious problem with them- 1st activation is automatic, 2nd can be done via TTCode on the spot; It's only the 3rd activation and beyond that can cause trouble, but as long as you can supply a copy of a purchase invoice they will accept it. Any more than that and you'd be better buying an updated map anyway!
iGO2006 use yet another licensing model: the maps/software are tied to the supplied MiniSD card, which can then be used in any device at any time (as long as it has a mini or standard SD slot of course!). Can be a bit of a problem if you need to run other programs at the same time, and they are not in main memory, but perfect on the Ameo which can just have the iGO card in the slot, and everything else on the MicroDrive!

It's not about changing the device, it's about having two or more devices. Most people I know have a "going out phone". I can see where you're coming from, but how many people on this site have just one device. I bet it's close to 50/50. People that use these things tend to be a bit techy. The "it doesn't apply to Joe Public" is not an acceptable defence for a rubbish product.

Not on a whim, but first thing in the morning, every morning, I get up, look in my drawer, decide which PDA to use, then turn on, deactivate CPL, take the SIM and SD card out and put them in the new device. Power on, reactivate CPL. Job done in 5 minutes. Doesn't bother me in the least. Having to use a certain machine because it had TomTom on and I couldn't put it on the other would p*** me off no end. Put me in a bad mood straight away.

There was a thread here that says otherwise just a month or so ago.

There were 2 issues raised at that time. One was that some of the new WM6 ROMs on the Trinity and Hermes caused the Device Code to change. This was a bug in the ROMs and TomTom were understandably a bit in a quandary, as previously the device codes remained static through all ROM updates. This is now sorted as the newer ROMs have reverted the device code to the original one.
The second issue is more of a problem and is partly associated with the above. Although TomTom can issue a new Activcation Code, TomTom Home has problems with eitehr multipl;e codes, or multiple devices/products. So getting a new Activation Code after the buggy ROM update, but then trying to revert to the previous one will be OK for the software itself, but TT Home won't play ball. This is still a contentious issue.

Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review
It's not only the Trinity and Hermes that changed their device IDs, some of the ipaqs used to as well. I have 3 mobile devices (MPX220, Treo 750V and an Advantage). CPL will work on any of those, and as I get more used to it (i have been a tomtom user for probably 5 or more years) I like it more and more.
The ability to use the safety screen, with the safety cams popping up with their assoiated speeds is great. The interface is so much nicer than TT6. The only problem is with the ETAs as far as I can see.
From a licencing perspective, I generally use the Advantage during the week, so CPL will stay on that, and at the weekend the Treo. If I'm doing a long journey at the weekend then I will use the advantage, otherwise the Treo will do the job. Relicensing like this will probably take me about 5 minutes a week, so no big shakes there.

Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review
Hi
Just got my orbit 2 today. very impressed so far until using cpl7.
Going through the registration set up: when I got to langauge and voice options both select boxes are empty. Contacted ALK to be informed that there is a few problems with this due to the loaded software and the type of micro SD card with the phone it has to be a "sandisk" type and not the "transcend msd" sent with the phone.
AKL is sending another preloaded "sandisk" in the post for arrival monday. They said o2 were aware of this and were requested to return for relacements
Any comments please
thanks
regards

Re: CoPilot Live! (7) Review
Yep this is a known issue - there is a problem with the Transcend cards. The Sandisk card will be fine!
