Re: Xda Stellar Review

Hello Margot,

I would expect pocket informant to run a whole bunch better on the stellar than the orbit.

The processor is a lot faster and there is a huge amount of memory on the stellar, I have been installing everything on the device and there is still loads of room, my orbit was always moaning about critical storage space

Good luck, I have done quite a bit to mine already and will help you out if I know how to

I got it on a 24 month tarrif.
£25 per month...800 mins, 1000 texts, free calls to all O2 mobiles...I had to pay £49.95 towards it.
Anyway it arrived out of the blue today and I have been busy setting it up tonight...I'm delighted with it...I got it to replace my Motorola V3i mobile and HP iPaq H5550 Pocket PC.
No mention was made to me on the phone of co pilot and there was no co pilot software with my Stellar...should I have got it?
Also I think I may need a replacement sim as my original one won't be 3G compatible...I read somewhere if you order a new sim...they switch your old one off...thing is I can't be without my phone until the new sim arrives...is this true?

My first post on the forum...nice to meet you all.

Re: Xda Stellar Review

Hi ipaqowner- welcome to 4WM And congratulations on getting an excellent WM device.

Co-Pilot is not currently part of the Stellar package- some Orbits still come with a special offer of CPL6, though ALK have just upgraded Co-Pilot to CPL7 (see our review!). If you don't want the expense of buying CPL7, TomTom are doing a special 50% off offer on maps at present. There are some 'fixes' needed to get this if you are a new user, but as far as we know they are fully legitimate.

O2 should send you a new SIM card for 3G. When it arrives, you call Customer Services at which point the new card will activate and the old one will stop. There can be a 2-3hr gap while it takes place.

Have you got a data bundle with your O2 packeage? If you start using the Email and browsing facilities, you will need one; They do a 200MB bunble for £7.50. Without the bundle, data is charged at £3 per MB.

To conserve battery life, I'd also suggest turning 3G off unless you need it for serious browsing or file donwloading. 3G is a real drain on the battery and you'll improve it by 50% by turning it off (Settings/Phone/Menu/Options/Band- set the top box to GSM rather than Auto)

Re: Xda Stellar Review

Hey Guys,

This phone looks excellent. Only 3 cons!

I don't want to go on a contract deal. Is there anyway to get this phone without going contract?

(I'm with 02)

TY,

Xen

Re: Xda Stellar Review

After talking to O2, I got the Stellar for £306 and remained on their Simplicity 15 tarrif (ie the phone was separate to the contract. I also went for the £7.50 web bolton giving 200MB data/month

Neil, thanks for the welcome and info.
Can you give me any more info on the tomtom sale (a link perhaps) and the "fixes" you mentioned please?

Re: Xda Stellar Review

Sorry for not replying- passed me by for some reason!

I'll PM you some advice as it may be more relevant! At present there appears to be nothing stopping you buying an update map but TomTom can be a bit picky with their license terms.

Re: O2 Xda Stellar Review

Puerly on the basis of this superb review I have ordered the O2 Stellar (reassuringly expensive) but out of stock until 6th December.

Previously I owned an XDA Mini S and had installed Copilot 6 with the external bluetooth GPS receiver. Since O2 are not including any Sat Nav software with the Stellar, I will install Copilot on it.

The question is whether I can use the external GPS or will Copilot recognise the onboard receiver and default to that. I presume that reception will be better using the external device so I would choose to use that in the car and the internal device on my motorbike and walking.

Has anyone had any experience of this scenario yet?
