Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Well first of all thank you for the Review...it was a great joy to read..and had been waiting so badly for it. So a big thank you to all that helped build the review..
Now for some dah questions..lol..i have order my orbit 2, which should be here tomorrow (i hope) and following a suggestion i went to an O2 store and purchased some screen protectors...on the pack it said for orbits, but is it possible that it is not one screen protector but to half screen protectors? so 6 pieces allow 3 total screen protectors?
that said also i would like to add some applications and see what is around...where can i look and find out a bit more on the different applications available..On this site? or...
Well enough dah questions from me...wish you all a nice evening and once more thanks for your help , and again, for the review...

Spb Weather and SBSH iLauncher are purchased software - follow the links on the home page to the 4WM store.
I'll have to leave someone else to tell you where Today Agenda comes from.

There is a pretty good screen saver included in the Orbit 2 package.

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Alex, the screens on the Orbit and Orbit 2 are totally different. The former is the standard recessed screen, but the latter has the new flush screen, so the protector needs to be much bigger to cover the whole thing- the smaller one would start getting snagged and frayed quite quickly.

As Wavey says, O2 provide a fairly good one in the box- it is a bit shiny and gathers grease quickly, but good enough till Proporta release one

For applications, look in our threads around the site, particularly What Apps do the Moderators Use (What do the mods count as their essential apps?) .

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

On the whole I've been pretty impressed with the Orbit2, but I do have some issues with it.

I just don't think the build quality is very good. For example my SD card sticks out so the cover doesn't close properly.

The side buttons are spongey and unresponsive......

....and the front button panel seems plasticky.

Then there's spinny wheel. What was the point? It's rubbish. A good job it doubles as a dpad.

Why take away the HTC home plugin and add the cut down O2 plus stuff? That seems crazy to me.

The Touch dual ROMs contain a few superb software tweaks like the contacts A-Z panel thingy. Where are they?

Generally I think the device feels a less solid than the Kaiser or Touch or S730.

Bluetooth strength is poor. With my phone in my back pocket while walking to work when I use the green cross code (look left then right) my S9's cut out each time I look. I never saw this with the Touch or the Kaiser, or the S730. The volume seems low through the S9's too compared to the Touch and S730.

I've got a minor issue with the switching between 3G and GPRS. It seems to be a bit funny about it and drops my active sync connection occasionally. Again not something I saw with the Kaiser or S730.

I'll not put a by this one as it would be unfair, but the week I've spent away from WM6.1 I've really missed its features. Come on O2, we need an early ROM upgrade!

Other than that I think the device is pretty sweet. On the plus side:

3G/HSDPA is FAST.

GPS is FAST.

Totally loving the OK button. It's the one thing the Touch really needs.

Excellent screen protector.

Device is generally fast overall. Quicker I think than the Kaiser, Marginally quicker than the 6.1 Touch.

I'm liking the extra memory capacity.

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

The Contacts app does have the 'Quick Index' on my Orbit2; there is a setting in Contacts/Options to turn it on (though it isn't clear thats what it does ) Don't have it here at present, but I think it says 'Use Tabs' or similar.
