  • HSDPA/UMTS: 2100 MHz (Europe), 850/1900 MHz (USA)
  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE: Quad-band 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz

Brodit o2 XDA Orbit 2 Holders

Hi Guys, Hope everyone is well? Ive been playing with the Orbit 2 and I like it a lot!

Just wanted to report the following as it may answer a flood of queries in one go;

1) We now have an Orbit 2 and the Brodit holder range is being created specifically for the Orbit 2.

2) As with previous o2 exclusives the chassis is different on the Orbit 2 to the HTC variants. We have found as Daron states in his review that the passive 848714 for the HTC Artemis 1 does fit but beware any of the actives (968*** or 971***) as again the usb location is different from the Orbit 1 and HTC variants.

3) So if you can wait a short while the Full range of Brodit holders for the o2 XDA Orbit 2, Passive, Cig Lighter Active and Hardwired active will be available for pre order soon,

If you have any questions, do feel free to drop me an email or PM,

Many Thanks as always!

Bryson

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

That is good to know, I do prefer the Brodit mounts to any other I have tried.

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Comming from a Nokia N95, I've found the orbit 2 quite easy to get to grips with. I thought I'd give my own views on it compared to a N95 which I've used since it was launched last April.

Battery
The orbit supasses the N95 by miles with the battery life. I was lucky to get a full day use out of the N95 with lite to moderate usage. If I used the GPS and internet regularly, the battery would be dead within 4-5 hours. The Orbit lasts on average 2-3 days. When I'm duty and hammer the internet for fun, the Orbit has lasted aprox 9 hours before needing a recharge. Big thumbs up for the Orbit

GPS
The orbit wins hands down. It gets a lock before I realise it. I've got the car cradle set up and by the time I get the car started and CD inserted, the orbit's GPS is ready to go. With the N95, GPS lock normaly took 1-2 minutes providing you stood still. Sometimes it would take upwards of 10 minutes to get a decent lock.

Cusomisability
I love that the WM6 can be customised just like the Symbian OS on the N95. I've already installed a few applications, including scummVM for my Monkey Island fixes

Phone Calls / SMS
Apart from taking an extra button/screen press or two, making a phonecall is just as easy as on the N95

Internet
The N95 wins my view on this area compared with the Internet Explorer that comes with WM6, The n95 would go onto the full internet where as IE will by default take me to wap/pda versions of sites. Opera Mini is easily installed and gives me the full internet as I had on the N95. The N95 wins because this "feature" came built into the phone and I didn't need to download any 3rd party applications like I had to with the Orbit

Camera
N95 wins by miles. The n95 camera is so much better than the Orbit for both pictures and video recording. As I have a decent Digital Camera I'm not too put off by this, but if your used to the decent video & pictures from the N95 you will be disapointed with the Orbit.

Touchscreen vs Keys
Like I said on the first line, the orbit is very easy to get to grips with. The touch screen is nice and responsive (even more so with a little registry edit ). I thought it would be a bit wierd going from a keypad to touchscreen, but after the initial ooer, its all good

And thats it, My little review comming from a Ex-Nokia N95 user. Hope it helps other "normal" mobile phone users think about getting the Orbit 2

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Ok, video driver issues aside, what is the voice call quality like on this device? The Orbit 1 was pretty good I recall. And regards hands-free bluetooth performance - have we any real-world examples for this device? (My XDA IIi, lovely though it is, has problems maintaining any kind of clean connection with the headset if it was anything but line of sight - even over short distances - for example, being a cyclist, I tried putting the device in the mesh side pocket of my rucksack which positioned it to my right hand side, just behind my upper back - amazingly it was as good as useless. The only workaround would be for a lanyard arrangement and have the device hanging around my neck in front of my chest - not acceptable...)

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

Call quality is very good and signal aquisition is excellent. Very few mobiles get a signal at my parents house - in trees at the bottom of a steep valley - but this has no problems. No first hand experience of bluetooth headsets myself but many of the other mods seem perfectly happy, particularly with the Motorola S9s which are both bluetooth stereo headphones and a handsfree system in one.
