Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

Indeed, so it looks like O2 are ahead of the other operators here.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

Now that is an excellent response!

So, do we know if ALL Diamonds (and indeed devices with this chipset) use the Control Channel method, or is it operator specific? I'd assume the latter, as the infrastructure would need to be embedded in the GSM system?

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

The fact that the other devices are shipped with QuickGPS probably suggests they don't use this system.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

That would make sense.

Surprised here BTW that we are not getting many (any) comments from the readership despite lots of views....

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

I hate to say it, but O2 were so late to the party with this one, that the world and his dog already know all they need to know about Diamond variants, despite the USPs of O2's version!

Flavours of the month now are Touch Pro and Omnia

I'd suggest that with that many views and no questions you must have covered everything well enough to alleviate the need to ask anything.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

First comment is to say well done on another excellent detailed review!!

Second is to do with lack of QGPS. According to your spec list, Ignito comes with A-GPS which I think uses info. from phone masts in area to get location data to set up sat-nav fix. That might explain why you lost your signal in deepest, darkest Wales.

I have installed TT7 using O2 de xda diamond rom extract and is working well. Used trial with free city map to decide if i was going to stick with it. No probs so far.

On TomTom home site TT7 maps for Western Europe are £49.99 for O2 XDA Diamond.
