Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

The corruption issue whereby a file failed to write to the internal storage has happened to me only three times, each time whilst restoring from a hard reset whilst copying back to the storage over 2.4Gb of files. The problem looks to be caused by Vista on my machine, or the Ignito timing out. Once the files have been copied into the Storage area no other corruption has been seen at all.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

Just to confuse matters re QGPS and A-GPS, have been reading Ignito manual (as you do after 2 weeks of playing with the device) and have found that one part of the manual is all about the use of QuickGPS and what it does.

Checked all methods as shown, but can't find it, so question is why is it in the manual?

Very strange!!

Yep I know, a case of the manual not being editted correctly by O2 / HTC before the device reached the marketplace

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

Well I’ve been waiting for the review and thank you for it. Most of my comments simply echo much of what’s been said already although the differences between Co-Pilot and Tom Tom are very interesting as I was considering a change.

I took the time to look at the Ignito in O2 store on Monday and straightaway was taken aback by its size or lack of it. Great pictures by the way and a very good indication of its bulk in the hand. How important it is however to get at the machine first hand, so to speak.

I’ve waited patiently with my Orbit 1 for a replacement machine and have to confess at first look I don’t think the Ignito will be for me. It is a fantastic machine for its size and can do everything that I could wish for but possibly just too small. The unit I handled instore was tethered to a security strap and yet I felt it uncomfortably delicate to handle; too prone to being dropped while in my hands. I don’t say the machine isn’t robust, just small. Perhaps O2 might consider an option of selling the unit with the extended life battery.

I went back home and looked at the dimensions of the forthcoming Touch Pro and the then just-leaked news of the TouchHD.

I am truly surprised by the slight reduction in size between the Orbit and the Ignito and the effect that this has when handling; or to confidence in handling. Perhaps I was just tentative handling a sample in a store; I’ll go back again.

If I don’t want to wear a belt holster when going out I slip the Orbit into the ticket pocket on my jeans or trouser; it’s a nice snug fit and not uncomfortable. The shiny slick Ignito I reckon might slip out when I sat down or crawled about somewhere.

A seemingly great PPC but I think I’ll wait to handle the Touch-Pro (O2's competitors in the area did not have any on display) to sample the heft. I don’t need or use the keyboard but it’ll make it heavier.

As the Orbit has not missed a beat since the first month, nearly 24 ago now, I’ll soldier on.

I have the desire to upgrade, the money and my contract is long expired plus my wife would like the Orbit and Tom Tom but unless a catastrophe befalls my Orbit I’ll stick with it.

O2 will not mind as they’re getting better value from my old contract but should they read this; please hurry up with the Touch HD. Posts comment on the size of the HD but it's only a pencil thickness longer and half that thjickness wider than an Orbit 1 (it's thinner than the Orbit as well). I learned a lesson; don't just read numbers, look and hold.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

I can understand your concerns about the size of the Ignito, and yes it can be strange at first getting used to the smallness of the machine. However once one has adjusted it does tend to suit the jeans pocket well and due to the metal body is pretty well protected against knocks and bangs. I find it can sit in the pocket comfortably just below the leg / body join crease and therefore is nigh on impossible to fall out of the pocket.

Re: Review: O2 Xda Ignito

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the size. It is a very good size, small is beautiful, and you will adapt to it and find it very user friendly. I have never had it slip out of my pocket and I sit down a lot.

The key isn't the size of the handset, but the size of the screen, and that hasn't changed, in fact they've increased the resolution to make the display even sharper. Touch pro and touch HD will be very nice too, but they will definitely cost a lot more when they come out, and for me that cost certainly isn't justified.

Now if only they could make the Ignito finger print proof.

Agreed, for me the body would be a bit nicer if less shiny, or if the screen was capacative (spelling) then at least it would be brighter adn shimne through the finger prints

Hi Bluewoolf,

The Ignito is nice and the Touch Pro (XDA Serra) will be available in a month or so I would think
