Re: O2 Xda Exec Review - Part II - The Applications

Okay we can get the machien much faster for you!

A few Q's first though:

- Have you updated to the new ROM which was released last week?
- Have you turned error reporting off?
- Did you install in corporate mode (I assume not)?
- What apps do you have installed and are these loaded on SD card or main memory?

My Exec is just as fast as my old iPAQ 4700 and while not lightning fast is certainly faster than my old Xda II.

If you can advise on the above we should be able to give you some good tips on getting your performance back to where it should be!

Hi mujiburc- welcoem to 4WM.

You seem to be suffering from many of the problems which afflict a lot of Execs.

Though it needs a lot of reading around (all on this forum!), most of the issues are fixable, and you can achieve a fast reliable device.

Due to the changes in architecture in WM5, and the fact that the Exec is 3G and VGA, its never going to be as fast a a well setup XDA IIi.

The delayed rings problem has been pretty extensively discussed, but you may need to search a bit (or someone will point you in the right direction!)

Other tips are to turn off error reporting (a major cause of slow operation), update the ROM (unfortunately this needs a hard reset, and you can't restore a backup after a ROM update) and/or run the device in Corporate Mode (or even without extended ROM if you don't need auto connection settings, MMS etc)

The lack of syncing of subfolders in Messaging has always been a failing of Pocket Inbox, and is no better in the WM5 version. If Email is important to you, you can use an Exchange Server setup which does sync sub-folders, or you could look at WebIS FlexMail 2006 (a new app for WM5, but was previously WebIS Mail on WM2003 devices)- reports of slow loading on WM5, but excellent functionality.

When you have an hour or 2 to spare, browse around the site for a while, and I'm sure you'll find some help- or post some questions in the relevant forum topics, and help will be forthcomng.

Don't give up on the Exec yet- it can work very well with a bit of setup (shame the default device has been so poorly implemented)

Really? I've been synching my Outlook mailbox with about 20 sub-folders of various depths in both 2003 and WM5 without a poblem. What is the problem others have?

That was my understanding, but I hope I can stand corrected!

Certainly Exchange Server sub-folders sync OK, but its a long time since I tried it with Pocket Outlook/ AS syncing.

Exchange certainly works and I think that Outlook did but again here it is a while since I tried it.

Might be worth trying the new beta of AS as that has a lot of issues with Outlook Sync resolved.

Details under NDA I'm afraid.
