Re: Memory-Map

Great review

I've had Memory Map for just over a year now and it's brilliant! I bought it with the intention of taking up Geocaching, but seriously lack the time to try it with work commitments (Hopefully that'll change this summer).

Runs on the Ameo superbly using the in-built receiver - seems like the 5" VGA screen was made for this! Setting up to run whilst driving makes you realise how accurate those OS maps are, tracks barely leave the road, usually only between plots. Files can be added to marks on the map too which could be excellent for camera-equipped devices. Although only one file can be added, you could theoretically create a document in Word Mobile with pictures and data and associate that with the mark. I have also seen tutorials listed showing how to scan and equip your own maps for use in the software.

Being able to control the 3D flythroughs a bit more on the desktop would be nice - Speed and the output file size on the record and not user-defined, although video can be edited in other dedicated software.

That's exactly what I do! Really handy when you're trying to notate different routes.

Have you got any links to those? I've seen them for other mapping products, but never for MemoryMap. I'd love to get my 1:25,000 map scanned in as MemoryMap don't sell one for my Island.

Re: Memory-Map

I haven't really had much time on my laptop lately, but I believe there's a topic in the help files within the program detailing how to do it!

A couple of topics from the Memory Map forum might help -

Re: Memory-Map

The difference between srtandard and premium editions seems to be the Aerial shots. Apart from initial playing - do you think its worth it ????

Re: Memory-Map

I suppose it depends on what you would be using it for and how experience you are with maps and a compass. The aerial photography is great for giving you a visual feel for where you are. On the other hand, if you're already comfortable with reading the features on an OS map then they are probably just (very) nice eye-candy.

I can't remember, can you get a trial with the AP to see if it's of any use to you?
