Ok, the main issues I have with this are:-

1) Can't find a way to add TCPMP or Resco explorer icons into the home tab. Can you do this?
The only way to "add" to that tab, is to run the app, and when it shows up as MRU (most recently used), you then have the option to pin it there! But I think I did notice that some of the apps run, didn't show there all of the time!

2) No G or 3G/U indicator on the "Now" screen. Just bars, 2 bars G is obviously different to 2 bars of 3G.
Can't help at all with this, as no PE device here, and some items not functional on the Now screen for me!

3) Can't move the today plugin lower down the list on the today screen.
Didn't try that before, but now that you mention it.... The only thing that can go above is the Date..!

Also a question. Where does the displayed dialler come from? Is it part of the app? Where can I find it if so?
Without a PE device, I never did see this... So again, can't help there!

Joe, you want me to do anything in the conclusion or just add a couple of lines on the Now and Today plugin bits where prompted.
Actually, that was just suggested places for you, but feel free to add comments where ever you'd like... conclusion included!

You might be thinkin about the contacts app. Not really a dialler as such although once you find the contact, you can send an email call them etc. The builtin app is much better for that.

Good review and I agree with the mark, with a bit more forethought it could,ve been great. It really lacks basic features like weather being local for those who don't live near a major well-known city.

What I like about this app is, as with all SPB products, INTEGRATION

If you install SPB Weather to replace the Shell Weather tab, then you can choose local (i.e. BBC weather) and this is displayed on the NOW screen

Did you guys also notice that the sunshine is displayed on NOW screen even if it is night-time?

The purpose of the app was really for beginner users who were perhaps moving from smartphone devices or were totally new to windows mobile.

What I do love, though, is for power users the ability to integrate other apps (not just SPB, but other today plugins as well).

A lot of the testers complained about the simplicity and lack of configurability of this products - but in my eyes that is good (prevents novices getting tied up with too many options!). A good example is my first encounter with PhoneAlarm - too many options - too much time to set up - so I ditched it.

I think this is a great app - and if the promised feature requests come through (in the second release) then we will have one mighty-fine app. Sadly, I'm reaching critical storage capacity with all these apps from SPB - I need the Athena

The second release is the one I'm waiting for as that to me will make it viable on the Orbit.

Really nice review and this is going to be a big product from SPB. It looks and performs well.

I have one comment on your screenshots that you've used. When switching tabs you show that the calendar items are only available on the home tab, and they don't follow when you switch tabs. These items all follow for me, so I'm not sure if you've configured something there or not.

Thanks Howard.... but not exactly sure what you mean! You say " the calendar items on the home tab"... do you mean the appointments on the Now page? (maybe it's early here, & I'm not awake yet!)

Re: (Review Draft) SPB Mobile Shell

Joe, I've added a conclusion of my own, and the Now screen PE bit. I've also put in a couple of lines here and there that concern the PE stuff, and added a couple of +/- points.

Can you have a quick skim through and let me know if you think it's ok? Also, do you want me to do a seperate mark from me or leave as is?

Re: (Review Draft) SPB Mobile Shell

@hshortt:

I now see the calendar detail you were talking about, Howard... I just mixed a screenshot that had those items displayed, in with the rest! In real life, the plug-ins do carry over when changing tabs!

@Wavey:

All looks good to me! I made all corrections that Steph suggested, and added a little more to show that we both reviewed with different devices.
As for the score... I think there should be only one, but do you agree with mine? If not, I think maybe we should average to one final... What do you think?

Re: (Review Draft) SPB Mobile Shell

Ok all... SPB Mobile Shell is official!
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/prod...obileshell/?en

Ready to go live once Dave and I can agree on final score. I think we should post in a new thread, as this one has become a little "chatty" like the other! We can post comments again in the final thread if we still want!

Thoughts??
