Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

1. Are you using the OS that came shipped with the F900, or one from the Acer FTP or elsewhere when you see the wake up issue?
A: I use the Rom from Turbo4V (w/o Acer Shell and Connection wizard)

2. Did the wake up issue occur after installing other software, or did it first appear without other software installed?
A: I never had the wake up issue (lucky me)

3. Does the wake up issue still occur even when all programs are stopped from running in the background? (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway).
A: No wake up issue

4. What OS version are you currently using 1.002 or later? (check in settings> system> system information> wireless module> GPS/GPRS)
A: 1.002

5. Have you had any problems keeping your network settings after a soft reset?
A: Yes & No, the Rom including the connection wizard always cleared the settings, since the wizard is gone the connection setting stays.

6. How have you found the phone signal in general, has it been weaker compared to other devices you might have owned?
A: Yes, compared to my other winmob device the signal strength is rather low.

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

Please answer the questions only and keep on topic or posts will be removed, this is to help all F900 users after all.

More information is required for the Issue when the F900 doesn't wake up after a few hours in sleep mode.

1. Are you using the OS that came shipped with the F900, or one from the Acer FTP or elsewhere when you see the wake up issue?
A: I don't have a wakeup issue. I only have to press the button twice, and it wakes up. very easy

2. Did the wake up issue occur after installing other software, or did it first appear without other software installed?
A: N/A

3. Does the wake up issue still occur even when all programs are stopped from running in the background? (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway).
A: N/A

4. What OS version are you currently using 1.002 or later? (check in settings> system> system information> wireless module> GPS/GPRS)
A: version 1.002 shown after soft reset

5. Have you had any problems keeping your network settings after a soft reset?
A: Yes. I had to disable the network wizard with memaid to fix the problem

6. How have you found the phone signal in general, has it been weaker compared to other devices you might have owned?
A: Ok, but not great. sporadic would be the best description.

Another issue I am having is the abiltity to turn on the wifi in comm manager. I hit the button and the hourglass comes up for a few seconds but it won't turn on. settings/connections/wifi takes you to configure network adaptors. At first this was sporadic, but now it won't go on at all. PLEASE HELP!!!

Signal is definately weaker then HTC Diamond (1) which is not famous for its signal strength

Thanks for helping out, Boz.
What I noticed (other very very important issues):
a. when the device is in standby mode, I may need to press the power button 2 or three times in order to turn it on.
b. it is simply impossible to make or receive video-calls, this function seems to have been removed in this firmware
c. the dialer _should_ show the current selected number
(example: I choose a contact through the dialer and I am selecting the "work" number. I should be able to see that number before I dial it.
d. the auto-end idle tasks seems that... is not working (even if I remove all the exceptions)
e. gravity sensor orientation needs plenty of tunning to... work.
f. probably irrelevent but I suspect that after installing the voip drivers, the gprs module goes dead (it can not connect), just tought I should mention it for the rest of the users.
g. the acershell consumes much memory (making it hard or impossible for other programs to run)

Thank you for reading these

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

Hi, I am also new to F900, I hope my response can help acer to have a better patch

1. Are you using the OS that came shipped with the F900, or one from the Acer FTP or elsewhere when you see the wake up issue?
A: My version is 1.003_CHT, I'm from Hong Kong and i am using the rom built in. I experienced wake up issue, and I have figured out that there are 2 occasions that lead to wake up issue frequently.
First, program installed in memory card -> whenever programs are installed in memory card, wake up issue become more frequent
Second, if the battery is at the low level, wake up issue will be more frequent, and I doubt if there is quality problem with the battery.

2. Did the wake up issue occur after installing other software, or did it first appear without other software installed?
A: Wake up issue occurs when program installed in memory card or the battery is low

3. Does the wake up issue still occur even when all programs are stopped from running in the background? (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway).
A: yea! even I stopped all the program by task mgr, still cannot wake up!

4. What OS version are you currently using 1.002 or later? (check in settings> system> system information> wireless module> GPS/GPRS)
A: version 1.003_CHT, and sometimes experience GPRS problem, that means sometimes I cannot access to GPRS even though the reception is v good.

5. Have you had any problems keeping your network settings after a soft reset?
A: Yes. Not yet fixed as it is not that annoying

6. How have you found the phone signal in general, has it been weaker compared to other devices you might have owned?
A: the signal always fructurate and it seems to methat the reception is not stable, but I am sure the reception there is strong when I use other phone. Anyway, although the reception signal looks varies, I did not experience connection problem.

Hope it helps!

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

No, there is a problem with these new acer phones and is a problem with a number of pdas. I didn't have it with my eten x500. It's called S.O.D. (standby of death), I have just about tried everything on my M900 without success. If you find a solution and tested it for a few days let me know. It's not just sms, it's anytime with any settings. ACER hope your reading this........it's so frustrating...!

s.o.d = screen of death fixes!

install everything to phone memory, NEVER to microSD, and s.o.d will be gone!

Yea, but if u access to storage card, it will lead to S.O.D, and it is not possible to install everything in the phone, therefore, I really hope Acer can fix this problem in the coming patch!

Angry Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

I had most of my programs (+15) installed on my storage card on my x500 and never had one problem with the phone going into an unrecoverable standby.

I have resolved the problem so far, but going into the advanced tab in the "power" settings and disabling (untick) both the sleep mode settings (battery and external power).

You just have to be mindful to turn off the device (press power button once) when you are finished using the device.

Update: I got the Standby of Death again. So apparently this is not working. Don't know what else to try.

ACER do something about this. PLEASE !!! For the love of your reputation if nothing else !!!

Maybe it is just those programs like SPB weather etc... that have update requirements that is doing this.

I can try a hard reset and reinstall most programs to memory and see what happens.
