F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

Acer F900 only:

My contact at Acer is now asking for all the information F900 owners can give concerning the following issues, as Acer are taking the issues seen with their latest devices seriously and want to address them as soon as possible, so they are taking note. If other issues arise they will be added at a later date.

Please answer the questions as accurately as possible to give a clear picture of the problems and circumstances. Help them to help us!

Please answer the questions only and keep on topic or posts will be removed, this is to help all F900 users after all.

More information is required for the Issue when the F900 doesn't wake up after a few hours in sleep mode.

1. Are you using the OS that came shipped with the F900, or one from the Acer FTP or elsewhere when you see the wake up issue?

2. Did the wake up issue occur after installing other software, or did it first appear without other software installed?

3. Does the wake up issue still occur even when all programs are stopped from running in the background? (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway).

4. What OS version are you currently using 1.002 or later? (check in settings> system> system information> wireless module> GPS/GPRS)

5. Have you had any problems keeping your network settings after a soft reset?

6. How have you found the phone signal in general, has it been weaker compared to other devices you might have owned?

Thanks for helping out, Boz.

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

1. isnt the OS that shipped with F900, the same as acer.co.uk ?
i having wakeup issue since day 1 with shipped OS.
with shipped OS: i have wakeup issue.
flashed with rom from acer.co.uk: still have wakeup issue

2. i notice if i open internet explorer and other browsers (iris browser or opera mobile) and let phone turns backlight off. then phone unable to wake up.
this is not always the case, sometime i have no browsers open, phone still unable to wakeup.

i also notice when phone freezed/lockup, you will have wakeup issue.

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

Thanks for the great feedback, do you still get the issue even when all programs are stopped from running in the background (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway)?

I will add this to the main post.

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

with all programs stopped, i dont have wakeup issue at home with good H signal.
when i'm at work, some area got H and some area got EDGE only due to weak/low signal. phone switching back and forth and searching cause the phone to freeze/lockup, then unable to wakeup (sometime)

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

i been trying different things to solve the freeze/lockup and screen cant wake up problems.
previously Iris browser, opera mobile 9.7, and all programs installed to microSD.
now i reinstall Iris browser, Opera mobile 9.7 to device storage, NO MORE LOCKUP/FREEZE and SCREEN CANT WAKE UP!
i opened internet explorer, opera mobile 9.7, and 2 tab on iris browser together, no screen of death!

but free storage is only 130mb using Turbo4V rom, the problem is you cant install all programs to device storage!

EDIT: i'm sure this tempoary fix apply to stock OS too.
but stock OS free storage is 60mb! after you install around 6 programs, you are out of storage!

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

That is good news in a way, I would have thought these lockups could be partly caused by installed software, Opera can be a memory hog, and running out of memory can cause freezes etc, please note though that the feedback needs to be given on a stock OS or it can't be taken into account!

I will merge your post and mine in a while with our existing posts to save cluttering the thread.

It still needs proving though!

Thread now tidied to keep on topic where possible!

Re: F900 owners: Acer needs your help troubleshooting problems!!

boz, is Acer only interested in F900 feedback on the one particular problem of not waking up?

What about other problems reported by F900 users, such as:

1. Not being able to hard reset. (Need to reflash rom).
2. Loss of connection settings after reset. (Removing GPRS service from startup isn't really an elegant solution). Perhaps Acer feels the M900 responses are sufficient for this one.
3. Sub-standard GSM/GPRS radio reception. (My 3 year old iPaq 6945 gets better reception in weak areas).

Hopefully, they are aware of these problems and have enough data to work on fixing them.

Hi, the hard reset problem is no more, see this thread here: http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/e-t...rrect-way.html (F900 Clean boot / Hard reset the correct way)

I will add number 2 and 3 to the main post.

Oops, sorry, I missed the corrected hard reset procedure post. Yep, it works. Thanks.

As for the other issues:
More information is required for the Issue when the F900 doesn't wake up after a few hours in sleep mode.

1. Are you using the OS that came shipped with the F900, or one from the Acer FTP or elsewhere when you see the wake up issue?

Ans: I haven't encountered a black screen that I had to soft reset; if tapping the screen didn't wake it up, one or two presses of the power button has always worked.

2. Did the wake up issue occur after installing other software, or did it first appear without other software installed?
Ans: N/A

3. Does the wake up issue still occur even when all programs are stopped from running in the background? (ignoring activesync as this runs anyway).
Ans: N/A

4. What OS version are you currently using 1.002 or later? (check in settings> system> system information> wireless module> GPS/GPRS)
Ans: 1.002 according to the ACER screen when I reset. The OS version doesn't show up under the aforementioned GSM/GPRS (not GPS/GPRS, by the way), although under System Information > Software it shows Major version:1, and Minor version: 002. Same thing I guess.

5. Have you had any problems keeping your network settings after a soft reset?
Ans: Yes, everytime I reset. Always! I run an AT&T connection cab to repopulate the settings. Happens after a clean hard reset or rom flash, and with programs installed.

6. How have you found the phone signal in general, has it been weaker compared to other devices you might have owned?
Ans: Yes, weaker than my iPaq 6945. That's the only GSM phone I have to compare it with. I get No Service occasionaly on the F900 where the iPaq gets 1 or 2 bars.

Oh, another problem for me: screen sensitivity. Frequently need to tap an icon, soft button, or PIE link multiple times to get a response.
