Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Does anyone have an issue with the WiFi disconnecting itself it always seems to happen after performing an Active Sync using the USB connection. When you try to activate the WiFi using Comm manager it will not work. The only sure way of reconnecting is a cold reboot but that means loading all applications, so now I use a backup program. The connection sometimes comes backon after a few hours, not always reliable.
Another questuon is about Quick Launch, does anyone know of a way to replace items with the ones I want to use?

Not enough memory in the phone when you consider the price. The GPS works great and I do have many applictions but uses a lot of memory you have to close them using Task Manager.

I solved my WiFi disconnect problem, I upgraded to ver 1.09 and now it hasn't disonnected even with all the programs i'm running

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

I am having the same issue. You can not turn on wifi. At first this was sporadic, and I thought I had it figured out, but now it is off and I can't get it to start up again.

BIG ISSUE. Please let us know what to do before I have to send back within my 30 days!!!

If anyone has the proper driver info and registry settings, It would be greatly appreciated so I could check to see that my setup is correct.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Ok, I did a hard reset (+,_,Power and soft reset.)

Got wifi working after hard reset. I have since been loading every program I use individually while I have the wifi turned on. After each install I do a soft reset, and check if wifi still works.

Currently I have installed the following with success and wifi working:

SPB shell 3
net cf 3.5
spb weather
google maps
resco explorer with regedit
memmaid (and disabled connection wizard)
MS3 Config v 0.15
S2U2 v2.01

So far I've had success with all of them. As I've stated before, the problem was intermittent. I basically couldn't turn on the wifi via comm manager, and i didn't have the wireless tab in settings/connections/wifi. I will give an update if anything changes.

Not sure if any of these programs were the culprit before, but try and reinstall everything with your wifi activated. Maybe that prevents one or more of these programs from changing something it isn't supposed to.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Uh-oh, I just noticed the same thing - WiFi doesn't turn on. I guess I haven't tried it since I started installing programs. I think I'll stop and retrace my steps. I've been doing periodic backups with Spb Backup as I go along, so I'll start restoring and try to isolate the culprit.

To this point I've installed, in this order:
Spb Backup
Pocket Informant 8.2
Resco Explorer 5.0, Registry Editor, Photo Viewer, Today Plugin
Spb Pocket Plus 4.0 Core, button mapper, PIE enhancement (doesn't work), safe mode
1-calc lite
SoftReset
misc today screen and menu mods
removed GPRSwizardservice from /windows/startup
turned off Acer shell

I'll let you know my results.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Jeez, in tracking down the wifi problem, I uncovered another problem, I think. First thing I did was Launch Acer Shell, checkout wifi (did not fix), then Unload Acer Shell. That caused the Today screen to revert to standard WM 6.1 Items. My customization of the selections of Items was gone.

Oh well, back to the wifi problem sleuthing.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Pj,

I've been working on this problem for almost 3 days straight. I even had the problem after a hard reset when I used the acer backup program. I don't know about SPB, but I've just kept all the cabs readily available on my storage card and have found my "safe" order of installations.

Try my solution, although time consuming, it was the only one I found would work. Uninstalling programs didn't do it. The hard reset was what finally got it working, and it has been for about six hours straight now with plenty of testing.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

Hi, I think it may be a bug from PC Activesync

You can read here:

And you can test this....

Here's an interesting article I just found on Microsoft's website that does not address your issue but explains the Advanced Network functionality a little better.

Did you try this? (I posted a link to this reply earlier in this thread to the MobilitySite forum - this procedures seems to change the priority in the internet connections on a network):

( In your PC )
Open Start - Settings - Control Panel
Open Network Connections
Make sure your PDA/Phone is connected
You device will show up as a Local Area Connection X (X being a number). Make note of this network name.
Next, in network connections, click on Advanced in the menu, and then advanced settings.
Make sure that your PDA/PHONE device (local area connection X) is at the bottom. Click the green down arrow on the right to move down.
Best Regards.

Freddie, I'm glad to hear you have found a solution for the problem of loss of wifi. Hopefully, your process will be a pemanent solution.

I, too, was able to recover wifi access via a hard reset. But my loss of wifi soon reared it's ugly head again, whether or not I had a wifi connection at the time. After many hours of resets, reinstalls, backups, restores, etc., I discovered my problem was caused by an old version of Resco Registry Editor. I was using a 2005 version. Whenever I opened and closed the registry I would lose wifi access, even if I made no changes to the registry. I was able to replicate this result several times. Finally, last night, I downloaded the current Resco products and that solved my problem. So far, anyway. I hope it's not just a coincidence and the underlying problem is still out there lurking.

I'm also concerned about Spb Backup, although I have the current version, because yesterday I restored from the the same backup several times and got different results regarding the wifi issue. I hope this doesn't happen in the future if I need to restore.

It has been extremely frustrating. Apparently you never did discover what caused your problem initially; is that true?

I'm running Vista which uses Windows Mobile Device Center on the PC, not Active Sync. The status of being or not being connected via USB has not affected my wifi abilility on either the PC or F900.

But thanks for the info. Quite interesting. I'll tuck it away for future reference. Besides, my wife uses XP and AS, so it might be applicable for any similar problem she may encounter.

Re: Acer F900 WiFi disconnects

pj,

No I didn't. but there is a chance I might have the same issue with resco. I haven't actually used it since reinstalling. I'm tempted to try, but not too sure yet. I will check my version and hope it works out. I beleive I have the 2008 version, which should be the latest.

Thanks for the update. I'll let you know if the same issue happens again.

Just played with resco regedit and explorer. I turned my wifi on prior though. So far no problems.

I think that installing too many cabs at once, before reseting may cause the problem too. You are supposed to be able to install on the fly, but this is a windows machine and usually works better when installing separately. I just tried installing small programs together, and the big ones (Shell, MS3config, resco) separately. Just in case they all tried to edit some of the same things at the same time. Probably paranoia, but it worked. Sometimes it's better not to ask questions. For me at least, otherwise I'd go insane!
