Yeah I know but they do not quite fit in as well. Plus the work of running three sites! If it was my full time job maybe, but alas!

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

Well - as of 18.30 this evening I have iPhone 3.0 running - experience? How easy was that? In under 20 minutes I had it downloaded, installed - and the best part ... all my content - applications, emails, diary and contacts were still exactly as they were before I upgraded it. The whole process managed by iTunes. Guys - Microsoft have a lot to learn when it comes to simplicity of operation.

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

Totally agree, completely painless upgrade and some really nice new features added. I had to pay for the iPod upgrade but I'd gladly pay £6 to upgrade to the latest WM build but as MS have moved the goalposts again that won't be coming for my phone

The problem is that upgrades for any specific WM device is completely dependent upon the hardware manufacturer. The majority of whom seem to be only interested in shifting huge quantities of new machines and expect people to buy a new device to get the latest OS upgrades rather than use resources to support upgrades to existing ones . In most cases any upgrades that are released are most often bug fixes rather than improvements. What is the point of having an upgradeable device? Apple on the otherhand seem to (despite criticism by many) offer a far more equitable solution by making sure they are in control - but this does mean their reputation is solely in their own hands!

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

But it is a problem of Microsoft's making, they could easily have made the hardware drivers separate from the OS (and maybe have) and then merely updated the bits that don't care about the hardware. I'm sure if they thought long and hard about it they'd find a precedent for this, like oh ... every single copy of Windows they've ever sold.

They have had WM Update in there since WM5 IIRC but never used it, considering the iterative nature of the OS up and including 6.5 it would hardly have been difficult to replace certain modules either. It just smacks of being a half hearted effort. I'm sure Apple are quite keen to sell a few 3GS's and yet they have still made seamless upgrade available for iPod Touch v1, iPod Touch v2, iPhone v1 & iPhone 3G.

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

Well - having upgraded my 3G to Apple 3.0 I have gone one step fether an gone for the 3GS 32 gig! Main reason - 32gig - I can get all my music and some movies on it! Other reasons? If I needed any - the Oleophobic screen coating is amazing - my first mobile with touch screen that ISN'T a finger magnet! It really does work! The speed increase is very noticeable too! The other benefits of v3.0 are just reinforcing the reason why I went for the iPhone in the first place - and version v3.1 is already in Beta!
FX: Tongue in cheek: is there any news on a WM7 upgrade for my Touch Pro yet (or indeed a WM6.5?

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

I too am impressed with v3 of the OS, but the price hike to upgrade to a 3GS for me was way too much. Plus a guy at work allowed me to play with his 32Gb model and I did not find the speed increase enough to warrant the spend.

Price hike? I was on Pay and Go so it was £528 for me. That was pretty much what you'd pay for a WM device without a contract - and you dont get free unlimited data plan included in the price. I can see what you mean if you are on a contract - but the last 5 WM devices I have had have been sim free. OK that isn't possible with the iPhone - but the cost comparison was about the same.

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

I have a Touch HD at the moment, but looking at changing to the iphone 3Gs, has anybody any comments about battery life on the iphone as reports here and there say its not so good as a WM device ???

What sort of battery life would I expect on an iphone, on the HD I can easily get through a days work and end up in the evening with say 40-50% usage left.
