Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

I don use mine as efficiently as I should but it does get used for important meetings etc as my brain decides to forget important appointments (probably diagnosable that)

I'm hoping wm7 is the mobile equivalent of win7 in terms of takink a look at what was done well and what needs improving and then putting it in place while actively seeking feedback

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

I'm moving from WM to iPhone because work is getting me the iPhone. I know how much better WM is to do a lot of things, and I subscribe firmly to the "Apple is style over substance" theories, but I do most of my work on my laptop and the stuff I do need to do on the move the iPhone does do well, I've used someone else's for a while. Plus, web browsing is important for my work, and the iPhone DOES do that better.

However, if WM7 does end up being so much better, I'll be back....

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

Not sure I agree about the internet usage. Have you used Internet Explorer 6 Mobile on a 800x480 screen? It works correctly in lots more sites than Safari and the WVGA screens are awesome.

I haven't so does "works correctly" mean they display right or that they have fixed the awful user unfriendliness?

I do take issue with your 7 "major" upgrades for WM in 7 years, personally I think there have only been 3 or 4 major improvements in the Pro interface in that time. I found it quite funny listening to some of the wags chortling at Apple trumpeting Cut and Paste, especially when you consider that MS still haven't added it natively to smartphone for example.

I just don't see MS bellying up to the bar on this one, everything I seen/heard so far has been fairly uninspiring (incidentally, off on a tangent, was it just me or was that hexagon interface doodah the ugliest thing ever?).

I have to agree with you there. Is the hexagon screen still there - http://www.1800pocketpc.com/2009/04/...u-on-wm65.html notes its gone! If it is still there the hexagon interface is a complete waste of time and real estate - and real ugly to boot!

Both. Have they fixed the poor resolution on the iPhone yet?

Well in all honesty I take issue with the 3 "major" upgrades to the iOS. How can you describe the bug fixes and inclusion of features that should have been there in the first place to be any more grand than those between WM6 and WM6.1. How has the iOS UI changed in the 3 revisions?

Oh, and Cut and Paste was made native on Standard (Smartphone) since WM6.1.

I've heard the hexagon has gone, but it's just one of the many options you have with Windows Mobile. Spb Shell is sweet. By the same token do you really believe the iPhone Ui of 16 poorly drawn square icons is attractive? Please.... I'll give you easy to use but it's not inspirational graphically.

Re: Why I despise the iPhone.

No cut and paste on my S730 natively!

The i interface does look nice and works very slickly, I've got 5 pages of different types of app which I can quickly navigate to and the ones that I've deemed as most important are always at the bottom, perfect for me. Plus adding new apps is idiot proof as are further updates of said.

I'm sure there are any number of third party apps that will give WM a good interface but that is missing the point again, 99% of consumers want something that is attractive and easy to use out of the box (and probably none of them have a problem with the screen resolution either!). Most of the general every day users out there would give up on WM way before adding 3rd party apps.
