Re: How long could you survive without the internet?

For me the answer is two weeks. One week on holiday with no access and then one on holiday with a "wife's list of jobs". Towards the end I wasn't even shaking anymore!

Re: How long could you survive without the internet?

Same here, when I realised there was virtually no way to access the web apart from my company phone (which I needed to be careful about whilst roaming), I just had to give in to the fact. I did sneak off to an internet cafe on one day though...

Re: How long could you survive without the internet?

How long can I live without the Internet? Hmm, I remember a while back when I had to send in my PC for repairs, and the company I sent it to ended up taking a month to repair something that I could have done myself in less than a day.

The result? I ended up going about a week without it well enough, but then I began to get antsy and I kept thinking about it. Furthermore, I actually went to facilities that allowed me to use Internet, and I stayed there longer than normal just to continue using it. Finally, I just took out my old laptop, and hook it up to my cable modem/keyboard, and I just used that.

So I guess a week is the longest I can go without the Internet. I have to agree with some others, it is amazing how something like this has become so integrated in my life, but it isn't so surprising when you consider that I do just about everything using the Internet. I get my news, do a lot of my shopping, do my banking, research, get entertained, get materials to read, and so on and so on and so on.

Essentially, getting cut off from the Internet is sort of like getting cut off from the world to me.

One day, my cell phone will probably have the same level of integration in my life. I still remember the first time I ever got a cell phone (Motorola V60i) and all I used it for was occasional calls. Today, I have a WinMo smartphone with unlimited texting/data, and I use it to do almost everything my PC does.

Re: How long could you survive without the internet?

Once you get into your new Wm phone it will be like a third arm, if its not with you it will start itching.

I got a pager first (a long time ago) and then a very early nokia and I hated both - only turned them on when I absolutely had to and even up to my last std phone I frequently forgot to pick them up.

Now where I go the phone goes and it really annoys me when my wife or kids don't have theirs with them.

I think I already reached this stage.

My cell phone goes with me everywhere and some of the things it does for me have become absolutely essential.

Re: How long could you survive without the internet?

I just spent a weekend in the lovely village of Doddiscoombsleigh in Devon, attending a wedding. No internet? Pah. No phone signal AT ALL. No TV signal unless you have satellite TV. I practically had the shakes by the time it was time to come home on Sunday morning. One mile outside of the village, and out of the valley the village was in, my phone went nuts with emails, text messages, missed call reminders and answerphone messages - I couldn't wait to hit the motorway services to find out what I'd missed!

Ha ha! I know a few places like that - including one where even the Satellite signal goes wonky during the summer due to the leaves on the trees! It's like travelling back in time

Scary stuff, I get nervous going on holiday to out of the way places where coverage may be spotty.
