Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550 [Warning: Long Post!] ;-)

Ive updated to latest 6.1 from newplowe rom. Now i know the gpsfix program is built into the rom. But is there supposed to be an icon in programs folder for me to run the program? I did apply the fsc gpschip firmware update to win5 before doing the update. So i know that the gpsfix firmware is done. But there is no software program icon inthe new 6.1 update.
Is there supposed to be one? Or does the fetching of empermeris data happen inthe background without any need for a software program?

The Quick GPS program (which I assume you mean) can be found in GPS folder.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. I'm looking into upgrading my Loox N560 to WM6 (from WM 5.0).

I've dowmloaded all the tools for doing this. I've backed up the present ROM contents. I however stumble at the next hurdle. When I try to flash the ROM using the PocketLOOXN560FlashTool, I get the following message.
____

Error

Communication to the device has failed.
It is therefore not possible to carry out the update.

Possible causes:
- Missing program components
- Image file missing or is not valid for this device model
=>Please contact our Help Desk (see Help Desk list)

-Device "hangs"
=>Carry out a cold boot of the Pocket LOOX and try again.
___

I'm using Windows XP (SP3). The Loox is shown as being connected in activesynch.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Matty,

I'm not sure I can address your problem directly, but I can give more general tips...

You may already have tried the following, but:

In preparation for flashing I always do the following:

- Back up (you won't be able to restore onto WM6, but if you go back to WM5, you will!

- Synchronise (you will be able to resynch after the update)

- Turn off any security (i.e. the FSC SecureLock)

- Hard reset the loox (this is to make sure there is nothing unexpected running).

- Plug the docking cradle directly into a USB port on your PC (not through a hub)

- Make sure the cradle is also plugged into the power adapter

- Turn off any firewall software (you may want to disconnect you network connection)

- Turn off any virus checker

- Plug the loox into the cradle.

- Let it conenct, but cancel the Windows offer of setting up Sync (i.e. leave the loox as a 'guest').

- Then start the flash software...

Let me know if you have any success with this...

Regards,

Andy B.

Thanks Andy, we're a little short on cover on Loox machines now but we can always rely on you!

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Thanks Andy,

The problem was all my own making. Although I had placed the file with the WM 6.1 ROM contents in the same directory as the PocketLOOXN560FlashTool, I hadn't unpacked it – silly me!! I added an *.rar extension to the 'Newplow' – ROM ver063.1......... file (too long to type here!), then unpacked it resulting in the OS_213U.nbf file and a word document also.

The upgrade went really painlessly after that, and everything seems to function properly (after changing the regional settings from Russian to English). The gps locator button caught me out initially, as it is now primarily mapped to the task manager. After digging into the system a bit, I found that the gps locator can be started by pressing and holding the button briefly.

One small point – I've noticed that after the date on the today screen, there is an “r.” I can't remember this with WM 5. Anyway, I'm certainly not going to re-instate it to see!! I wonder if anyone can tell me what this indicates?

Great forum. I'll be doing a lot of poking around here in the future!

Hi Matty,

Glad to hear the update went well!

With regards to the funny 'r' after the date - I've had this every time I've done an update - I don't know for sure, but I think it's a 'remnant' of the Russian regional settings. If you go back into the regional settings, and change the date format this should sort it out.

You may need to change the date format away from the current setting, click OK, then go back in and set it to the format you want.

Let us know if that works for you...

Regards,

Andy B.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Hi all,

I've just bought a Fujitsu N650 to use specifically with memory maps. This maybe a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. If i go through the 6.1 update process will i still be able to install and use memory maps?

Thanks
Jon
