Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Hello Bruisah,

I've read your former posts and your last post. I see you're happy with your upgrade, you've got a nicer N560 than it already was!

I think I'm going to upgrade my N560 this week, too. I'll follow your upgrade-steps. Thanks for your upgrade-story!

Regards,
Timmy

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

No Luck!

I followed all the steps. But step 6 gave me problems. After six seconds I see two dolphins on my PPC screen. But at the same time my activesync-connection is broken. After twenty seconds the program says "Error during transfer".

I'm using Vista Ultimate on my pc, and I think that version is the reason of this problem. I also clicked off the Windows firewall and my virusscanner, but with the same negative results.

I'm glad I backed up my PCC with the trial version of Sprite backup... That was a good tip!

Bruisah, I guess you're using an older version fo Windows?

Regards,
Timmy

Ah, yes! I'm afraid the flashing tool only supports XP, not Vista... Sorry - I'd forgotten to state that, although it is mentioned in some of the online info...

If you can get onto an XP machine, you should be good to go!

Is your device a German language one, or English?

Regards,

Andy B.

What version of Windows Mobile Device Centre are you using, because it could be that you need the latest version which is 6.1. There are also other tricks you can use to try and make it run on Vista.

Hi Boz,

Unfortunately, it's not an issue of WMDC, the problem is with PocketLOOX5xxFlashTool.exe. It doesn't work correctly under Vista. It will start the flash process, but then fall over. Luckily, this doesn't harm the device being flashed (the transfer process fails, so it doesn't actually flash anything).

The downside is that the target device will have been effectively hard-reset...

Regards,

Andy B.

ps Happy New Year, everyone!

Hello Andy,

I've used the XP PC of my sun. And now everything went well!!! I've exactly followed your installation-post, what's a good guide! Thank you for your work! I appreciate it!

(BTW: my N560 has the English version).

Remarks: I like WM6. It's better than WM5. I also noticed most of my programs work a little bit faster, like you already thougt yourself.

At last: we have a nice hobby, isn't it?!? And moreover: we can use it at work...

Thanks again!
With best regards,
Timmy

Hi Andy,

After some experiences I noticed that my sound was off, and remains off. So I tried a couple of things. I saw that the problem occurred àfter the reinstallation of the cab files. Then I looked in the capfiles and saw that the programs packed in the cabfiles were very old (2004, 2005). So I don't use any cabfile in my new installation.

In my opinion the cabfiles are too use when you go back to WM5. So I don't use them in WM6! There's no need, I think.

If you have another opinion: please, let us know!

Regards,
Timmy

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Hi Jim,

I'll look forward to hearing of your upgrade success!

Timmy,

I'm very glad that your upgrade has gone well.

With regards to the OEM cabs: I'm pretty sure that the "FSC Reg.cab" is necessary - I did not originally install it on my wife's N520, but it refused to run the Navigon software, stating that it wasn't signed. It all worked fine after I installed the reg.cab file...

For your sound problem, you could try installing the FSC Audio Path software. It enables a GUI for you to inspect the default audio paths being used (headphones, bluetooth, speaker, etc.). I vaguely remember a while back someone having no sound (nothing to do with a WM5 upgrade), and it turned out to be a minor fault with the headphones switch - plugin and removing the headphones sorted it out...

Anyway, good news that you've upgraded pretty smoothly!

Regards,

Andy B.
