Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Guys,

Noticed Newploy has released a new ROM 6.1 with GPS fix but doesn't state whether SDHC is supported. Has anyone tried this?

Guys,

Noticed that Newploy has now updated the details and this indicates SDHC support so will try this and advise if any problems found.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

OK, guys,

Did full system backup using SPBackup, upgraded the ROM from 6.0 to 6.1 using Newplows latest and greatest. Noted a slight increase in memory available but nothing significant. Restored my backup and hey presto - all is working fine.

Quick GPS - no problems
All other utilities tested with no problems.
Tested my 8Gb Sandisk Mini SD Card and worked fine, given that the SDHC driver only appears to handle up to 4Gb. If anyone knows of a fix for this then please post.

So if you fancy using Newplows latest upgrade, I would certainly recommend.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Guys,

Just a quick update on my latest upgrade. WM6.1 recognises 8 Gb Micro SD cards, contrary to what I stated previously. So that is really good news for all of you who want to increase your SD cards.

Still checking everything out and so far all is well. Some nice touches on this ROM. Noticed that the Memory program no longer shows running programs - not sure how these are managed now but as I have got some conflicts with other programs, it may be a problem with my backup so will clear all and start from fresh.

Will let you know how I get on.

Re: Windows Mobile 6.1 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Guys,

If you upgrade to 6.1 then don't use any backup system files as these will cause problems as I have discovered.

Now cleaned system and re-installed all programs and everything working great. Benefits so far (for me at least):

1. Supports SDHC cards above 4 Gb (I have a Sandisk 8 Gb Mini SD card).
2. Task Manager - this lists all running programs with memory and CPU usage. This is where you now close any open programs rather than querying memory.

Haven't compared power but would not expect any great difference.

Have checked GPS and works perfectly. Skype is causing a problem but will try to identify why this is and report back.

If anyone wants to know anything else then please ask.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Thanks Sandymac....

Its never wise to install a backup on a ROM change. If you want to backup the PIM data only this can be restored but ROMs can change the registry structure so when you restore things are in the wrong places and the OS gets all confused hence clean installations work best.

Well done.......

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550

Tonybro,

I actually backed up system settings as I believed that the differences between WM6 and 6.1 were minimal - obviously not, so can totally agree with you that the system settings should not be backed up as they will cause a problem.

Just to finish on a high note, re-installed Skype and all working well now. So again, I would recommend the WM6.1 upgrade if high storage card support is needed or you are upgrading from WM5 - or you just like the latest and greatest!
