Hi Sandy,

I take it the email problem that was associated with WM6.1 is now fixed? I may take the plunge so that I can get a smaller icon grid on the program list...

Well done on your successful upgrade!

Regards,

Andy B.

Andy,

Sorry but not sure what problem you are referring to. Let me know and I can test.

If I remember correctly, it was not possible to read email on WM6.1 (or was it sending email didn't work?)...

Andy,

I can confirm that email works both ways (not tested every method of achieving this but....)

Cool! It may well be time for me to clean up my PDA with a nice fresh install!

Bear in mind, there was a thread somewhere in the forums (I can't seem to find it right now), that described how to tweak WM6.1 devices so that the 'Programs' and 'Settings' folders would show smaller icons in four columns instead of three - very useful for VGA based devices...

I'll need to dig that out after I do the migration...

Cheers,

A.

Andy,

Couldn't find that thread either. Let me know if you find any info.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550 [Warning: Long Post!] ;-)

3. For the OEM FSC utilities (you don't really need them except for one file), browse to this forum article and you need to look for the 'OEM.zip' archive (again, I don't want to link directly to it)... This acrhive provides the FSC utilities that were built in to the standard WM5 version of the N560 (VoiceRecorder, lock, etc.). These utils have been taken out of the WM6 ROM...
I wish to follow your excellent guide and update my N560 to WM 6.1, but I have two questions:

1) Is there any other source for the OEM.zip file as I cannot download it from the indicated forum. As far as the Google translator goes the error I get is because I am not logged in as a registered user, but unfortunately I cannot navigate the registration page as it's all in Russian!

2) The latest WM6.1 download from newplowe.com suggests that after I update I will have a Russian regional settings, Moscow time and a Cyrillic encoding in IE. (see Translated version of http://fsc.newplowe.com/61_063_main.htm )

Have you encounterd this when updating?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Have you tried using Google translations? Works pretty well...

Yes. This is correct. It means that every time you perform a hard reset, you will need to go into your settings and alter the regional settings from Russian to wherever you want. It's not a big deal though - just means that the default region is Russian...

This shouldn't happen often!

Andy B.

Re: Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade for FSC N560/C550 [Warning: Long Post!] ;-)

Thanks Andy,

Yes - Google translations is great. Unfortunately the bit where I am stuck is where I have to enter the garbled, non machine readable words displayed in the graphic. I have no idea how to type them in using my UK keyboard! Shame I can't just copy & paste. I was hoping that the utilities had been posted elsewhere but all my searches seem to send me back to newplowe.com.

It was the FS certificates I was particularly interested in. Any ideas?

Regards,
Simon

Simon,

Not sure why you want this as I have never used it. The very latest 6.1 ROM includes more important (at least to me) programs such as quick gps, office mobile and a simple wireless manager (for both wifi and bluetooth). I would generally suggest you ignore the FSC utilities if at all possible.
