Bluetooth Dialup Modem connection to P800 (GPRS) Problem...

Hi folks,

I had a quick search through the forums and didn't find anything that helped, so I thought I'd ask around...

I'm trying to get my N560 to dial up over Bluetooth through my P800 GPRS connection.

If I set everything up using the IrDA modem connection, everything works fine, and I can get a network connection ok.

As soon as I try to use the Bluetooth connection, it doesn't work!

On my P800, I see the BT connection get set up, but it simply doesn't seem to respond to the ATD *99# command (or the *99***1#).

The Loox says it is trying to dial, but no joy...

Settings on the Loox:

P800 Bluetooth Connection:
Modem: Bluetooth Dialup Modem
Number to dial: *99#
(I've also tried *99***1#, both of which work fine through IrDA, but not BT)
User Name: <blank>
Password: <blank>
Domain: <blank>

Advanced:
  • General:[list:848702e15d]Baud rate: 115200
Port Settings:
  • Data bits: 8
    Parity: None
    Stop bits: 1
    Flow control: Hardware
TCP/IP:
  • Server-assigned IP address
Use software compression: On (but I've tried Off)
Use IP header compression: On (but I've tried Off)
Servers:
  • Use server-assigned addresses
[/list:u:848702e15d]
If I manually click-n-hold on the "P800 Bluetooth" connection, and select 'connect' from the drop-down menu, the BT connection is established, but the phone doesn't do anything else!

I have had this working from my laptop through BT to the P800, but SE provided a modem .inf file that describes the modems (USB/IR/BT), so I could ‘install’ a P800 BT modem.

I was wondering about finding a way to 'transcribe' the .inf file into N560 speak and into the registry, but...

Anyone out there any ideas on what to try?

Regards,

Andy B.

Re: Bluetooth Dialup Modem connection to P800 (GPRS) Problem

Andy- which operator is your P800 on?

These are the basic instructions for BT GPRS connections according to Orange

Setting up the modem

On the PDA, tap Start and then Settings.
Tap the Connections tab.
Tap the Connections icon.
Ensure that the Tasks tab is selected.
Under My ISP, tap Add a new modem connection.
In the Enter a name for the connection field, enter Orange GPRS
From the Select a modem drop down list, select Bluetooth and tap Next.
Tap the name of the handset and tap Next.
In the Enter the number exactly as it should be dialed field, enter *99***1# and tap Next.
In the User name field, enter user
In the Password field, enter pass
Leave the Domain field clear.
Tap Advanced.
From the Baud rate drop down list, select 57600.
Untick Wait for dial tone before dialing.
In the Extra dial-string modem commands field, enter +cgdcont=1,”IP”,”orangeinternet” and tap OK.
Tap Finish.
Tap OK.
Close the Settings screen.
Setting up the connection

On the PDA, tap Start and tap Today.
Tap Start, Settings.
Tap the Connections tab, tap the Connections icon.
Under My ISP, tap Manage exisiting connections.
Tap and hold the connection name specified in step 6 of Setting up the modem.
The Delete and Connect options will appear.
Making the connection

On the PDA, tap Connect.
On the handset, press Yes when asked to allow the use of your phone as a modem.
If the Allow connection screen appears, select Always allow and press Select.
You will now be connected to the GPRS service.

The improtant part is the Extra Dial String entries, which include the IP address of your provider. When you connect you will also need to enter the User Name and Password for the GPRS access of your Provider.

Purrrf, no ideas here, with my N560 linked to the Xda IQ I followed the steps you say and it worked fine.

Q - you do have incoming beams search turned off under connections?

Re: Bluetooth Dialup Modem connection to P800 (GPRS) Problem

Hi folks,

Neil - nice try - didn't work I'm afraid. If I use 'Bluetooth', it doesn't even establish the connection to my mobile. Using 'Bluetooth Dialup Modem', the BT connection is established but nothing else..

With regards to the beam setting, yes, I have that turned off unless I am expecting an Ir connection...

Regards,

Andy B

In the BT Modem settings (My ISP) make sure have you unchecked "Wait for Dial Tone before dialling"

All the other settings seem OK, but you don't say what you have in the "Extra dial string" box, which is the important bit!

Wait for Dial tone is unchecked.

In the extra dial-string modem commands section, I've tried:

<blank>

and

+cgdcont=1,"ip",internet"

Still no joy.

If I was any more stumped, I'd have mushrooms growing out of the top of my head!

Regards,

Andy B.

So presumably you are with Vodafone?

Is the missing quote mark before Internet just a typo?

Can't think what else to suggest! Are you sure the BT pairing is set as DUN ?

Just out of interest the beams setting HAS to be enabled for use with bluetooth pairing of devices and file transfer. I'd think you'd need that enabled in this instance too.

My 'Receive Incoming Beams" has always been disabled, and the BT DUN pairing works fine.
