Talking GPS Software for HTC Touch Pro

Hey Guys,

Wondering if some of you can help me out.
I have just purchased my HTC Touch Pro (Windows Mobile 6.1).

I have a QuickGPS device installed inside the phone itself however, all it does, is to download data and from what ive read online, QuickGPS is something like a third party software that determines your location.

Can anybody please enlighten me
1) If the QuickGPS software is just something to determine your position and not something that comes with maps.

2) If i have to get a GPS navigation software for the HTC Touch Pro, which software would be recommended. I just need something simple, like to tell me distance to destination, voice commands, figure out all the short cuts and etc. My location is at Singapore and Malaysia

3) And free GPS softwares. It would be good if the QuickGPS can be used as a GPS device however, till now, i dont think so as what it does is only to download data and nothing else.

Would appreciate if someone gives me an answer.

Many thanks,
Manfred

Re: GPS Software for HTC Touch Pro

Hi Manfred- as you suspect, QGPS simply uses a phone signal to improve the satellite fix times by prepopulating some of the data into the receiver's cache.

It does not include any user interface functions.

You say you need a simple GPS app, then list voice direction and rerouting; both these come under the 'advanced' options and are not included in free apps.

If you have a decent data bundle and can do without voice guidance and dynamic routing, then Googlemaps may suffice, otherwise a mainstrwam satnav application will be required.

I'm not sure whats available for your location, but mabe TomTom or Mapopolis may have something?
