Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
Hello all. I've been having a problem with my WM6 ever since upgrading from WM5. activesync keeps on restarting even after i terminate its processes. the WM5 that originally came with my Orbit also had the same problem, but i was able to fix it using the method of create a fake server for it to sync to then setting everything to manual. that worked, but it doesn't work in WM6, i haven't found anywhere where they found a solution to it yet, so i was just wondering if anyone else had that problem or fixed it
i believe the only solution is to change to another rom, as most other people who have reflashed dont seem to have this problem anymore, but just wanted to post it here just in case that's not an option for some and if there is a possible fix for it
thanks

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
Why do you want to stop it?
Activesync is an integral part of the communications subsystem in all WM versions. It uses minimal memory and doesn't impact on battery life (unless actually transferring data of course, via WLAN or GPRS).
If you have a problem with that, maybe there are better ways of addressing it?
Welcome to 4WM by the way

Hi infamouscamera and welcome to 4WM
As Neil said why would you want to turn it off? If you wish to charge your device without activesync cutting in you can achieve this by powering off the device then connecting.

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
thanks guys for the welcome
the problem i'm having is that it comes on anytime, even if its not connected via usb or anything, it will just pop up, lets say i'm in the forest with no other computer in site or connection for that matter, activesync will still come on.
i want to turn it off because it seems like it uses significant battery life for me. the battery last maybe a day longer or half a day longer when activesync is not on, i know this because for some reason when i was using my phone out of the country with a foreign sim card, activesync never came on, i'm thinking it has to do with the signal it receives here from my t-mobile even though i dont have a data plan, maybe its activating the syncing somehow compared to the cell signals in other countries
I also dont want to turn my device off when charging, because what if i miss an important call or message, i usually leave my phone on all the time
thanks for the replies everyone, i hope this kinda cleared up the problem i'm having
any suggestions on a good rom to use? i just need the phone for phone functions, texting, and wifi internet browsing, thats pretty much all i use the phone for

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
The battery issue must be something oher than Activesync, though it does seem a coincidence. When open, it just sits in the background using neither memory nor battery power.
It is more likely to be a weak phone signal causing the battery drain, so it constantly goes into a high power 'seek' state to try and latch onto a signal.
There is a possibility that something has installed that is trying to connect to data over A/S, and using power to start/end GPRS sessions; do you have anything set up in 'Settings/ConnectionsConnections'; most current WM devices complain if you don't. If that is the case, and you want to stop all attempts at GPRS data connection, look for a small free program called 'Modaco NoData' ; copy it to your device, and run it. It will install as a program to enable the complete switch-off of all GPRS data, leaving phone and WiFi functioning normally.
Also, I'd go into ActiveSync on he Artemis, open Menu/Schedule and set both boxes to Manual.

Just thinking if QuickGPS is trying to update. Go into the application options and disable all updating options, including the ActiveSync one....
Let us know how you get on....

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
well i dont think i had any connections or anything like that, maybe the applications, but i'll have to check, i just flashed to a new rom, and it seems to have went away, so it might have been an issue with the original
WM6 rom that i upgraded to, thanks for all the help guys, what other suggestions do you have for improving battery life?

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
For battery saving...
Keep backlight settings as low and short as possible. The screen is the biggest power drain.
Use the Power settings to get the device to turn off/sleep as early as possible.
There's no 3G on the Orbit so that can't be an issue but if you are in a marginal signal area the phone may be draining it's battery faster anyway due to it 'seeking' the signal more frequently and on a higher power setting....

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
infamouscamera -
I have the same problem on my TyTN II -- it's very annoying -- I have a task manager that displays the active tasks in the taskbar (like in Windows XP). This is very handy, but everytime ActiveSync auto-starts, it takes up valuable real estate in the taskbar -- and I guess I just don't want tasks running that I don't need. Anyway, could you please confirm that flashing the ROM fixed your problem? If it really looks like the problem has gone away for good, I'll research flashing the ROM on my TyTN II (but I don't want to take the risk unless there's some chance it will fix this problem). Thanks!!

Re: Activesync keeps starting up in WM6
H chezchas9- welcome 4WM!
I think infamouscamera meant the ROM update cured his battery drain problem, not A/S being continuously resident.
You cannot stop A/S autostarting- it is part of the OS and vital for connectivity functions.
