o2 orbit xda few problems
after looking through many pages of threads i havent found the answers im looking for hence this thread ive recently encounted a few problems need some advice
1. my battery has been detirieating, i know some phones (with heavy use) the batterys can wear down, and with a simple run down and re-charge its fixed... however i have tried this with my xda but have got nowhere, the phone will have 100% in the morn (after over night charge) within 30 minutes i will try and send a message, unforntunately by the time ive wrote the message the battery dies and phone turns off, it also removes the written message and any other message connected with it (i.e replying to a message sent)
2. internet.... im not 100% sure i have internet capability as if i open IE on the xda it doesnt display, i have tried getting "settings" from 02 but they had problems with my device so i coudlnt get settings, this also applies with pic messaging (i cant recieve or send)
3. with the internet problem above.. my xda suddenly attempted to download a gps update which somehow expired today 19/11/09 but i wasnt aware of the update until today when it told me it had expired is there any settings for my internet or pic messaging available,
i know you guys on here are ver knowledgable and i appreciate any advice/help given
thanks
Andy

Re: o2 orbit xda few problems
Hi and welcome to 4WM.
Sorry to hear of your problems but I'm sure we can help you out. In answer to your questions:
1. my battery has been detirieating, i know some phones (with heavy use) the batterys can wear down, and with a simple run down and re-charge its fixed... however i have tried this with my xda but have got nowhere, the phone will have 100% in the morn (after over night charge) within 30 minutes i will try and send a message, unforntunately by the time ive wrote the message the battery dies and phone turns off, it also removes the written message and any other message connected with it (i.e replying to a message sent)
The battery problem is more than likely due to old age and could need replacing, they do wear down and lose there their capacity to hold a charge after prolonged use, especially if the battery is the original. Could you tell us if the Orbit functions correctly when the mains charger is connected to rule out other causes?
2. internet.... im not 100% sure i have internet capability as if i open IE on the xda it doesnt display, i have tried getting "settings" from 02 but they had problems with my device so i coudlnt get settings, this also applies with pic messaging (i cant recieve or send)
3. with the internet problem above.. my xda suddenly attempted to download a gps update which somehow expired today 19/11/09 but i wasnt aware of the update until today when it told me it had expired is there any settings for my internet or pic messaging available,
In answer to questions 2 and 3, you can input your settings manually for the connections needed and they can be found (Q: What are the UK & ROI GPRS settings for Web. WAP, MMS)here.
The GPS update it is trying to perform will more than likely be an application called 'Quick GPS' this can be found in the 'Start'> 'Programs' menu, it will try and update every 10 days I think it is.
p.s
4. i somehow lost the clicky noise from the wheel when it turns... any way of getting it back?

Personally I would be looking at hard resetting your Orbit (that is taking it back to original factory settings), this will clear the phone completely and this will release much needed memory which could be another of your problems.
As long as it isn't much of a chore reinstalling your applications and files I would seriously consider a hard reset, I wouldn't make a backup of your existing files and apps as reinstalling them could compound existing issues. You can make a backup of your contacts and messages before resetting though using a free PIM application, such as Dot Fred.
I hope this helps, if you need further help do ask and we will be pleased to assist.

Re: o2 orbit xda few problems
ok thanks boz, well first off ... i ran my battery down last night and the red light at the top was flashing.. left it turned off and on charge all night and its on 100% today and so far so good, ive just tried the internet settings and its only gone down by 5% so thats a massive improvment ... i also found that somehow it had "turn device off if not used for 3 mintues" which may expalin the battery issue ive now turned this off.
ive looked through the thread about internet i think ive inputted it correctly and got an error .. 0x80072f78 any advice?

Re: o2 orbit xda few problems
That is good news, you are seeing a connection error code, try going into connections settings and unticking 'this connection uses a proxy', that might cure it.

Re: o2 orbit xda few problems
As I asked previously do these problems arise when the mains charger is connected?

Re: o2 orbit xda few problems
Using free WiFi (at home for example) is free. Using GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA is not free unless you have an unlimited data bolt on.
