MDA Compact III - internet connection speed
Hi,
Could someone please let me know what the internet connection speed is like with the MDA Compact III on T-Mobile with Web n'Walk?
I've got a toss up between this, the Orbit and the Orange SPV M700.
The T-Mobile tariff wins hands down but I need to be sure I'm getting a good device with a quick enough internet connection. Is it the equivalent to a 512kb connection for example?
Thanks in advance,
Richard

Hi Richard, it all depends where you are and whether the device you have can support 3G. From memory, the Orbit does not support 3G, so you are limited to GPRS speeds, which are around the 56k max, so much like a dial-up modem... The Orange SPV M700 is a variant of the HTC Trinity reference design, and does support 3G, albeit only when you are in a 3G area, reverting back to GPRS or 2G when you are not... My HTC Universal supports 3G and I have personally seen speeds of 400K when downloading from the NET when in 3G coverage...
Hope that helps!

The MDA Compact III is not 3G, so it is going to be the same as the Orbit, but slower than the M700. I don't think any regular posters here have one to give you any more precise information.

I concur
The MDA Compact III will have Internet connections from 0kbps (if there is no T-Mobile signal!) to 56kbps. In 'real life' terms the maximum you will see is about 25kbps.
The device does support EDGE (enhanced GPRS) but I'm not sure if T-Mo offer this.

And what would the Orange M700 offer Neil? If thats the speed that both the Orbit and Compact III can offer...

The M700 has 3G and HSDPA, so via the Orange network you can get up to 1Mbps in good signal areas (I saw 700kbps in Central London yesterday)
Under normal 3G you can get 300kbps and GPRS/Edge, 56/100kbps.
Of course, with WiFi you can get up to 54Mbps, though Internet access will depend on the speed of the Hotspot/Access Point connection.

Re: MDA Compact III - internet connection speed
.....and again with 54G you'd realistically only see about 35-40Mb.
