I found a way to turn the diamond screen off while remaining connected to AS - thanks to GSEN and the command #fdscreenoff(1)
Regarding battery life-mine goes for about 48 hours before needing a charge No 3G but using push mail all day and texting while 45 mins on calls.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Hi Waveydavey,

Thanks for your reply.

The only software I have added is Check List Pro and Space Reclaimer. On the previous Diamond I had various other applications, but decided to leave them off this phone to see if they were the problem. All of the apps had been on my TyTN II and not been problematic.

Neil, it is really weird that I have had two phones with such bad battery life, neither have achieved anything like the times that you are getting.

This battery has had more than 5 or 6 discharge cycles; when Carphone Warehouse gave me an exchange phone the battery in it was the battery from my previous phone; when they had given me a fresh battery they had taken it from the box for this one and put my old one in the box... rather naughty if someone else had bought it as new.

I rang Orange and they are going to send me another one tomorrow; hopefully this will be better than the other two. I'm getting fed up with it!

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

I wonder if there's a set of underperfoming batteries out there! Unlikely as it affects Vodafone as well as Orange models.

A message yesterday on another forum from an Orange employee says that Orange's next batch are ready for distribution, after their testing cycle, but that Orange have made a note to keep a close eye on battery performance, so they seem to know there's something not quite right.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Hi Neilm,
There are either a lot of underperforming batteries or phones (or both) out there, have just done a search on Google and there are a lot of people with similar problems.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

I've not used mine is anger for a day yet, I'll let you know how that goes on tonight. I did however charge my battery fully last night, and I left on Bluetooth (as I always do) push email was on (although I only received 8 emails overnight) and I cycled in this morning with 20 minutes of music over bluetooth stereo.

So:

8 hours without charging.
Push email with 8 incoming emails.
Bluetooth continually left on (but not connected to anything).
20 minutes mp3 music over bluetooth stereo.

After that I now have 7 out of the 9 battery bars still showing, so 77% ish.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Ive also been reading up after Ive been having "problems" with my phones battery.

I followed the 8 hour first charge advice, I charged it and left it while I went to work so it was more like 10 hours.

But the phones battery doesnt seem to last more than 12 hours, which is a problem because it is hardly used for most of those hours, I only have a 30 and 45 minute break and yet when I get home the best it has been is still half full.

I got my Touch Diamond through Carphone Warehouses on Orange but I wondering wether it would be best to go to CPW or directly to Orange to get the problem sorted out.
Anybody offer any ideas on what I should do?

Apart from the battery life I cant say Ive had any problems with it, its a hell of a jump from my O2 XDA IIi so Im well pleased with it over all

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Which ROM are you using (Start/Settings/System/Device Information); a lot of early Diamonds ( and apparently a few new ones) were supplied with the 1.37 ROM and **.03 Radio ROM.

The current main builds are 1.93 and radio **.05 which are much better.

Also, if you are in a marginal reception area, battery life can be quite poor.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Hi Neil, it says:

ROM Version 1.93.405.1 WWE
ROM Date 08/06/08
Radio Version 1.00.25.05
Protocol Version 52.29.25.12H

Reception varies from very good to nothing at all [when its in my locker at work there is no signal at all until I open the door, or even get outside].

Is the problem to do with the battery or the phone itself you think?

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Do you turn the phone radio off when you put it in the locker? If not, then it could be wasting lots of battery looking for a non-existent signal. Give it a try. Of course if the problem is the same on days when you don't go to work then my theory is wrong.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Agreed- searching for a non-existant signal will drain a battery very quickly because the device goes into a higher power 'search mode'.

If you definitely have no signal for an extended period of time, then it's best to turn the phone radio off.

My Diamond has now been 52 hours without a charge, as I've been away for the weekend. Phone radio was on all the time in a strong reception area. Push email was on all the time, and I've made about 10 minutes of calls. Battery still shows 3 bars.

I'm using Radio ROM 1.00.25.07
