Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

My first impressions of the Diamond...

Packaging:

Slick - the packaging reminds me of the Luxor in Vegas (with the top cut off) the contents are well packed into this tiny box.

Accessories:

The charger is well designed and has a HTC illuminated logo on the base, while the sync cable is also connects to the charger base (acting like a two in one).

I am not that impressed with the headphones - even with the loudest volume while listening to the radio, I can notice to much background noise.

Device:

The phone is very eye catching thanks to the slim modern design. A device which is not much bigger than a modern standard handset.

I like the magnetized stylus slot which smoothly pulls the stylus in when inserted and the glow around the enter button when attention is required.

Touchflo:

I'm not that keen on this feature, so I may remove it, as I find it sluggish sometimes (I just think its impressive to show people) and slows the handset from booting up quicker - though I do like the little envelope that displays an inserted page showing a few lines of an email message, shame there is no option to mark it as read from within the flo system (unlike there is with the text messaging side). I do miss the ability to have tasks, RSS feeds etc on the FLO today screen.

Opera:

Another feature I am not keen on as I can not click on links as quick as IE and while sometimes the links do not open when clicked. I also find the navigation slow, but I do like the ability to access a full web site.

Overall - I think this device is cool but fragile, I would not like to drop one. The Barty life seems fine for what I need - hours of calls and push email and some web browsing.

8/10

Now I do like the look of the TyTn III which I may get too (when I sell my Trinity).

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

From what one reads on the web it is encased in a steel shell so it should be very sturdy compared to earlier HTC machines.

I noticed the "Enter" works for me?

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

i've got the 1.35.404.4 NLD with ROm Date 05/30/08 and radio 0.93.25.NS26

Love it. Some critics nitpick on it. Well, get a Garmin, get a Nokia, get an Asus, get them all...
This is a real all-in-one with GPS, GSM, FM radio, MP3 player, PDA, USB stick, modem, blackberry,... (well euh... the diamond pro?).
It can be tweaked for better touch sensitivity, faster running, etc etc... and its programming is free (no iPhone hacking tools required).
It runs nice out of the box, and even better tweaked; And yes, a Garmin Nuvi boots faster (just a little I guess) and runs longer while some Samsung GSM menu's pop up smoother / quicker. So? The first plays my music too and connects to a BT set, but can't make phone calls on its own and the last one has FM radio onboard and 3G. But you need the both together to get the same features. Imagine walking in public with your pants exploding from gear (euh... )... well you know...

More business => Diamond Pro.
More of the same: yes, in nearby future.
common good? In about 5 years?
Getting better? Hardly, probably faster, longer batterylife, bigger memory, expansion slots and hopefully USB host and 802.11n and so on....

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Making a 'footprint' would be too large, but let's just say I have donated my Asus A730W (beautiful PDA by the way) to my girlfriend, leaving the BT GPS Sirfstar mouse out of work... she uses the Nuvi 670 for that(which replaces the Tomtom Rider my mother in law lost in the woods, so she payed for the Nuvi). A helmet with integrated BT is out of work after my motorcycle crash last year, waiting for insurance people to pay. And for GSM's I've had a few Nokia's (of which I liked the 6110 best), 2 Samsung sliders,... the lot. Also an iPod nano II, a Numark iDj2, an internet everywhere subscription (3G on a sim, with Option USB modem), broadband connection, NAS, Gbit LAN and amplified Wlan,... well, let's just agree on the fact I'm an early adopter and a tech freak. So now I have the HTC Diamond. And it will get along some time I guess (as did the Asus).
Nice site by the way...

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?

Yesterday Manila (TFLO3d) crashed and wanted to send error report to M$.... this morning the phone battery was dead. I tried to charge the device but could not do so unless the battery was removed and replaced? This afternoon the device started to scroll (loop) though the numbers of on of my contacts.

Other than that, I am pleased with it.

Time for HardSPL and ROM update i think...
