Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

Typical PC Pro though, IMHO they do not know enough about these devices to comment on them properly.

..at least they're not Mac fanboys

I agree though- even the 'Mobile Specialists' are not very clued up on WM devices.

However The Register has a piece on the Top 10 i-Phone killers, with at least 2 WM devices. The Nokia N95 8Gb gets top place with the Orbit 2 second.

Much more honest IMHO in my opinion.

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

I've found on the Diamond, that if you try and do several things in quick sucession, then it does slow down dramaticly, especially if your trying to get back to the home screen.

The biggest culprit for slowing down the diamond is the youtube app. As good as it is, it takes an age to close down.

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

I agree Graffen. I was playing with one in a shop last week and it ran like a dog. However, when I went into the task manager, there were at least a dozen apps running. Once I'd killed them, it did pick up a lot. However, swipping through the cover flow with your fingers is still really slow and not worth bothering for more than a few albums. You have to use the scroll-wheel to get any decent performance. Same goes for the rolladex thingy.

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

The TouchFlo 3D is a nice concept, and could work well but I can see a lot of people getting rid of it and going back to a standard WM Today screen with their own apps like PocketPlus, iLauncher etc.

Without T3D, it is quite fast- does have a 524MHz processor after all, though the VGA screen takes a bit of driving

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

Can anyone confirm that the graphics issues that the previous machines had are no longer an issue on the Diamond and the subsequent Touch Pro?

I have just ordered my Diamond through work, but won't be receiving it for a month or so, probably due to insufficient supply.

It will also be on Orange, so I'm glad that they haven't monkeyed with the interface too much, but I imagine the Orange branded version will have the Orangified icon sets, much like the branded Tytn II ?

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

As far as I am aware the Diamond does not contain drivers to take advantage of the hardware accelerated graphics integrated into the Qualcomm chipset. However, with the exception of one or two very vocal people on htcclassaction-whatsit, I've never come accross anyone who has experienced any problems with the other devices.

I've owned a Touch Cruise since early Feb and have not experienced any problem with video. I don't play games so couldn't comment on that aspect.

The whole problems seems to have been caused by a simple missunderstanding. The Qualcomm chip DOES contain graphics hardware and it was announced by HTC that these devices would use the Qualcomm chips. However, it's also common practice in the mobile industry (and to a lesser extent, in desktops) to sell the same chip with different features turned on, for different prices.

In this case, HTC appears to have purchased the Qualcomm chips without the hardware acceleration enabled. They obviously felt it wasn't worth the extra cost and few people have had any cause to complain about that decision. However, a few people were obviously expecting the hardware acceleration and had visions of playing fast, 3D games on their mobile phones. They feel they were misled. HTC say they never advertised the products as having hardware accelerated graphics.

Now there is a case of nail firmly hit on head.

I'm impressed they've (orange) have pretty much left it alone. They must be listening to their customers!
