Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

Orange have only 'left alone' their initial batch, which they wanted to get out quickly to compete with the iPhone2, so released with the standard HTC ROM (but SIM locked to Orange)

The User Guide for my Orange Diamond clearly shows, and explains the Orange customisations, which are added or modified tabs on the T3D interface, with the usual Orange colour scheme.

That said however, I don't think it would be difficult to revert to a normal Today screen, or even a generic ROM without Orange TV, Music and Downloads.

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

That is a pity. I know every carrier does it but it would be nice if they trusted their customers to customize their on devices.

Nothing like a bit of on device advertising though. Can't blame them for that.

How's the battery life on yours Neil? I hear some are better than others so would be interesting to get a rough comparison from folks who have them from different carriers

Yup, I have a Macbook Po for mainstream computing and a Macbook for portability!

I run parallels on it to give me access to Windows when I need it, best of both worlds then!

No beef with the serious ones But we do see a lot of evangelising about Macs and recently the iPhone in particular which totally ignore the failings.

The press is full of unbalanced reporting, failing to see beyond a nice interface and some good features, into a seriously deficient business device, despite the advances of the iPhone2; likewise, deficiencies in the current HTC T3D, which will be overcome, are being used to damn the whole phone, which is unfair and misleading.

Anyone with a modicom of expertise in mobile computing would be able to look behind the interface and see a very capable device in a ground breaking overall package: the iPhone is a Smartphone in PDA clothes; the Diamond is a PDA in Smartphone clothes

Perhaps HTC are partly at fault for promoting the new range as iPhone killers; until they sort out the interface, the comparisons will continue to criticise them.

Re: My new Orange HTC Diamond just arrived!

The Iphone and WM devices mirror the advantages of the Mac and PC IMHO. The Iphone is sleak, good looking and good at media stuff, but lacks the software support for the business environment..... and so is the Mac. The WM devices are extremely flexible and diverse, but is bogged down through support of it's flexiblity and badly written TP software.
