ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
Hi guys,
Got my diamond today, pretty amazing but occasionally slow, especially when a couple of programs running (even simple ones). Looking at memory usage even when no other programs are running - its at 73 % - only 29 of the 113 mb of memory are available. That seems pretty high to me.
How do I check my Rom version?
Got it with Orange.
Cheers

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
It's in settings>system>device information
If you haven't installed anything yet give it a hard reset and see if it's any better.
(assuming your contacts etc is backed up and anything else on the device you want is to)

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
Which programs are running? Windows Media Player is a huge memory hog, so if that's running, even minimised it will grab a lot of your memory.
29MB is very low- I generally have about 50MB free.

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
There seems to be a bit of a memory leak somewhere. I find mine decreases over time. 33MB at the moment with nothing open (3 days since last soft reset). Just soft reset now and it's back to 55MB.

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
OK soft reset has helped.
My ROM is 1.37.405.1 WWE (date: 06/12/0 - is that the newest/fastest?

No, although that is the current Orange branded ROM the are a few updates since then. Since the phone is branded (logo on back) HTC will not provide updates to you, so you need to find a faster ROM on the internet.
I would suggest looking at modmydiamond.info for starters on what to do to increase the speed of your device. My recommendation would be to flash to the 1.93.***.* ROMs and Radio ROM 1.00.25.0.5
Good luck...

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
If you've not flashed your device before though, a word of caution. There is a small chance that reflashing your device MAY render your device useless (i.e. "brick" it). The other thing to think about is that it will definitely invalidate your warranty, and without the current Orange ROM available will mean you won't be able to get it fixed if you have a hardware error.

Re: ROM version and Memory Usage - Slow Diamond
The Orange ROM is freely available because it is a stock HTC 1.37 ROM; the only thing that may need reverting would be the splash screens, but this is easy to do now.
I doubt anyone at Orange would even look at the SPL version on a return

From feedback I've heard, I probably would take the chance!
