Touch-plate is capacitive touch?
Hello Diamond-ites!
I came across an interesting article over on XDA Devs that has a tool for testing the nav pad, gsensor, position sensor, light sensor, etc.
It appears that the nav pad is actually capacitive touch and that it does not accept input from the stylus, but could possibly accept MULTITOUCH from two fingers!!
Any Diamond-ites out there tried this Debug Tool?
I for one, would be very interested to hear your findings! Perhaps this is true for the Touch Pro also?

Re: Touch-plate is capacitive touch?
I've been trying a few of the htc test tools and this seems to be the case.
If you use the nav debug tool you can drag two fingers around the plate and it draws lines on the screen as you do it. I haven't managed to do it with 3 points of contact yet though.
I have also seen a video of the Raphael doing this too.

Re: Touch-plate is capacitive touch?
Then why does it come with a stylus?

it appears that only the nav pad/touch plate is multi-touch, hence the need for the stylus.
Would have been very interesting to see what would happen if they used this technology for the main screen WM7 here we come?

Re: Touch-plate is capacitive touch?
I read that it's not actually capacitive, but the two bits on the touch pad are two separate bits if you like. So if you try to draw two lines with two fingers from one side of the touchpad, it won't work...I think.

Re: Touch-plate is capacitive touch?
i have had a good play with the test app and i have found the nav pad is a bit strange!!
It doesnt respond to touches from the stylus
it only allows 1 touch per section
it is in 3/4 sections, one for the left (home/call), one for the scrolly bit in the middle, another for the right (back/call end) and the button in the middle knows when it it touched but not where abouts on the button
I can get 3 touches regestering at the same time, but only one in each section!!
Is this actually used anywhere?? i know the scroll works in some apps, and the centre button does the focus on the camera when you touch it but i have not noticed the other pannels in use
