ATT 8525 - WM6 Does not Sync with Exchange Email OTA

I have a Cingular/ATT 8525 which I understand is the same as an HTC Hermes.
I have downloaded the Official WM6 ROM from ATT and after upgrading to WM6 lost my Over the Air sync with our Exchange Email server. This works fine in WM5 but dies when I go to WM6. I spent a full day researching it and it appears to be some sort of Certificate type issue - but I'm not totally buying that. I did get the cetsf from our Exchange admin and loaded directly onto the phone - no change.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? If so were you able to correct and how.
I am itching to upgrade - feeling like I need to flash a ROM soon!

While I don't have the 8525, you are correct that it is the same device... There could be a number of reasons why your synchronization with your exchange server no longer works, but we need to have error messages to actually help you out... It could be something with a certificate, as you mentioned, or it could be a simple port issue...

Do you have any more information that you can share with us...?

I had tried this right after the ROM was available and then went back to WM5.
I will do another upgrade today and post the actual errors.
Give me about 1 hour and I should have it back to WM6.

OK - up and running on WM6 (Official ATT Release) and now Active Sync to Exchange Email over-the-air does not work.
I put the settings in Exactly as they were on the WM5 version:
server name mail.XXX.com
Use SSL Checked

The Support Code that I get is 0x80072F7D

This points to a certificate issue - however the cert is Fine for Web Access, and WM5.

Any and all help is appreciated!

I am not sure if this would help because I am not too familiar with Exchange. However, I notice that for my Mail2Web service, there are 2 different settings for WM2003/WM5 and WM6. So it could be the case that you need to use a slightly different credential to log in. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion - however it is not a credentials issue - as it never gets to that point.
The error states it is a certificate issue.
I checked the cert - it is an Equifax signed cert, the name is exactly the same.
Cert Details:
Version 3
Signature Algorithm - sha1RSA (this might be part of the problem - not sure)
Valid from - till - Jan 14, 2005 till Jan 14, 2010
Public key - RSA (1024 bit)

If I open OWA and check the lock - it shows SSL Secured 128Bit

I will keep looking - but any and all suggestions are appreciated!

OK - here is where we stand at the moment:
I have the new ATT WM6 ROM loaded.
I was able to Sync with Exchange but ONLY when I was connected to a PC that was outside our network. We do not require SSL inside.

Now when I try to Sync OTA (not connected to the PC) I get the error code 80072F7D - which is an SSL error per Microsoft.

Why would it sync when connected to the PC - but not using it's own radio?
Both ways are connecting to the same server - just one goes through the Active Sync on the PC the other is straight to the server across internet - both using SSL, etc.

I am lost! HELP Please !!

okay, we are getting a little closer... One thing you can check is what connection it is using... If I recall, you cannot force it to use MEdiaNet, only Internet, so that is why it is working while connected to your pc... I had the same problem... You have to configure the ISP option in connections to not use a proxy, then you can play with the SSL options....

I had a similar problem when using the Exchange server at one of my jobs, and that is the process I followed to get it to work...

EDIT: I am assuming, of course, that you are using AT&T as your provider... If not, then this may not work...

The funny thing is that the sync using the PC only worked 1 time, now it is giving the same support code.

I looked at all the settings for MEdia Net and there is no proxy configured.

No luck getting it to work - will have to downgrade again soon before i leave for the day - have to have the Email!!

I am using ATT as my provider.

Ok a little more information:

We have F5 LTM's in front of our Email cluster.
The SSL session terminates at the LTM. The certificate is loaded on the LTM for the Exchange server and this all works properly over WM5, but not using WM6.
Outlook Web Access works fine from any browser, so still searching.

Just downgraded back to WM5 (last WM5 release from ATT) and it sync'd the first time.

If anyone has any thoughts please feel free to share!!
