Replacing LCD Screen on King TyTN
The LCD screen on my trusty TyTN is beginning to die... It constantly fades to white and I have to either SR or put it to sleep and wake it back up in order for it to spring back to life... That doesn't always work the first time though, so it seems as though it is time to replace that piece of hardware...
My unit is under warranty, but I absolutely cannot be without it for any length of time, so I have decided to fix it myself.... I have the service manual, but has anyone here actually replaced the LCD screen on their trusted device? How difficult (easy) is it? I am looking for real world experience here, not book information.. And while we're at it, does anyone know of a reputable location that I can buy it from?
Thnxs in advance... Must have been all of that flashing... Wore the poor LCD out... hahaha... Maybe I'd better buy two... With WM6.1 being finalized by the cooks, I have a lot of flashing to do...

Re: Replacing LCD Screen on King TyTN
I used to fix Nokias, and I re-housed my C500 it was relatively easy to replace the screen, but with it being a touch screen it could be more complex. I'd definitely get it done with the warranty if I was you. Have you not got another device just for a week or two?

Re: Replacing LCD Screen on King TyTN
I haven't done it on a Tytn but I have done it on an O2 XDA IIi, and I found it quite straightforward to be honest, but I am a qualified electrical engineer. It is not changing the screen that is difficult, that is just a matter of disconnecting ribbon cables and slotting in the screen, it is the dismantling of the device that is more troublesome especially if there is a combination of screws and snap together joints that can easily be damaged, but if you take your time it is quite straightforward.
As you have probably seen the Tytn is not that difficult to dismantle and if you feel confident about doing it then go for it. Ebay is the best place just check out the dealers reputation or try HERE they are a well used company.
Is it a screen fault you have though?!!
There is more info on the problem HERE and correct part numbers HERE

Well, unfortunately, I will be out of work in 3 weeks and I will require the advanced connectivity options... I need the email and web access to keep track of the constant flow of employers that are anxious to get ahold of my CV/Resume...
I do have a regular cellphone, but that just won't suffice...
@Boz: Thanks for the information, I am fairly comfortable that I can do it myself, it isn't that far off from working on laptop system boards, just smaller...

Have you not got a spare? You need to borrow one?

Re: Replacing LCD Screen on King TyTN
I am pretty sure it is a screen fault... I don't know what else would have caused this issue... I have tried various roms and the issue persists... I may also have to replace the dpad, sometimes the buttons work, sometimes they don't...

NOW that would be optimal... I can have it replaced under the warranty and still have access... You know anyone that can send me one...???

Re: Replacing LCD Screen on King TyTN
Jeff, I have a dead TyTn that I've never got around to attempting a resurrection on... You'd be very welcome to it, either to dismantle or re-animate, as I'm sure I'll never get around to it!!
