There's a good link here that discusses the charging of the new Li-ON batteries that come with devices such as the Hermes. It appears that the first charge is no more important than the 50th charge on Li-On batteries.

I think the only XDA device I charged over night was the XDA2. Since then it's been plugin, and when the green light comes on, it's playtime!
