For those who can't wait I saw that Boxwave are doing a variety of adapters and connectors that fulfil the same purpose here.
Hope that helps....

Unfortunately none of them work with the Hermes Tony. Both the Hermes and Strtrk come with proprietry connectors that as far as I'm aware of are not yet available in the general market place. Unless someone can prove me wrong there are NO TP 3.5mm adapters with the 11 pin HTC connector on at the moment.
......and no, things like the RAZR etc USB connectors do NOT work. They are 5 pin connectors. They'll charge for you but won't play your music.
I'd rather not do this procedure for 100's of people either, but if there are a few people out there that would like me to help them out I'd be happy to.

Thanks Davey,
Didn't realise the Hermes had the same proprietry adapter as the StrTrk - must read things a bit more closely
Anway - anyone wanting any other connectors should be giving Boxwave a look!
Cheers,

Re: Tutorial: Replace Hermes headset connector with 3.5mm so
Actually it isn't the same as the Strtrk, I have mislead you there, but it's another different proprietry connector. Which is nice......

This is what really winds me up about manufacturers
Why can't they get it into their heads that we will not be held hostage into buying new accessories when we have devices that do the job already!!
It costs them more to produce a proprietry connector, costs manufacturers more to support it and no-one wants it as it means duplicating equipment.
There is a perfectly adequate form factor in the (mini) USB connector and is cheap to produce and is used the world over - why try to re-invent things? If they think we will blindly cough up for new accessories with every device they need to seriously think again!
I criticised the StrTrk for this in my review but it looks like HTC are now on a mission.....
Very poor business practice imho!

Hi guys
testing electrical connectivity when making the adaptor - my concerns about inevitable shorting have gone away. The wires clearly have a varnished insulation.
Just using the awful ipod headphones with the adaptor improves quality 10 fold. Thanks Wavey !!

No probs mate. I guess the varnish probably accounts for the smell when you attack the wires with the soldering iron........

Re: Tutorial: Replace Hermes headset connector with 3.5mm so
Any idea if this can be split for stereo output and also mic input? I was thinking these phones come with stereo earbuds & a microphone on the volume adjuster? (Note that I don't have this phone yet but am seriously considering it)
Thanks!

Re: Tutorial: Replace Hermes headset connector with 3.5mm so
I think the Mic is in the volume slider box, so you'd have to split the cable out before it reached the volume box.
