Re: !! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!
Hi Robert and welcome to 4WM
First of all you need to sim unlock your device, you can achieve this by following this post
here (!!! Free Kaiser sim unlocker now available !!!)
Next you need to install Hard SPL to your device this is to stop it being damaged or bricked during the upgrade, this can be found here (!! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!)
Once the above are completed successfully you can then proceed to flash roms to your device.
Please read all the hint ands and tips befor proceeding to flash your device as I wouldn't like to hear it is damaged or worse.

Re: !! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!
Okay, I ran the Schap's .exe on my desktop with the TILT connected to the USB port. Hard SPL is installed.
The update process gets to 29% complete and then i get ERROR Code # 284 and am prompted to recover. Tried the recovery several times with same results. The phone has the tri-colored screen and will not shut off without removing the battery. Will not power up except to the tri-colored screen.
The SIM is removed and there is no uSD card installed.
How do I fix this?

Yes it will wipe out everything installed on your device so you will need to backup your contacts with Outlook or similar.

Just connect up while in bootloader mode and run the upgrade again, did you sim unlock your device?

Didn't do anything about SIM unlock. Is that necessary with the SIM removed? I guess that I don't quite understand the relationship yet.

It is not really needed but I would have done it anyway personally just to have an unlocked device. Have you tried reflashing the rom?

Re: !! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!
Not yet. I have been looking into the SIM unlocker. BTW, I'm running VISTA 64-bit, that may be a problem. I am looking into installing the XP USB drivers.
Tried reflashing, same errors at 29% complete.
SUCCESS! Yes it was a 64-bit VISTA issue. I used my other machine which is running XP and everything worked perfectly! Now I can explore this new ROM. Already much happier because one of the things that AT&T removed was WINDOWS Live! Now my PDA is synched to all of my Live! stuff.
Thanks
JR

Good to see you have it sorted Vista 64 can be problematic, but at least you had the XP machine.

Re: !! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!
After a little more research I have discovered that the 64-bit VISTA was not directly responsible for my difficulties in installing the new ROM. My TILT was connected to my machine through a 4-port USB hub. I had some issues previously with a Logitech camera connected to a VISTA machine through a USB hub. Somehow, the devices connected to the hub eventually disappear and VISTA doesn't know that they are out there anymore. Resetting the hub (power down, up) fixes the issue temporarily. I believe that many of the USB 2.0 hubs out there are not somehow compatible with the network protocols used by VISTA.
In both of my previous cases (the TILT and camera) everything works just fine if the device is directly plugged into one of the native USB ports on the motherboard (I have 10).

Re: !! Flash any rom to your Kaiser with Hard SPL v1 !!
That is the answer then! You should never flash a rom through a USB hub or it is possible to end up with a bricked device.
