Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
Let's say right now I create a backup file with sprite backup, then I hard reset my TyTN II. If the USB still doesn't work, can I use the backed up file before I did the hard reset to get all my information?

Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
The Backup will take a 'snapshot' of of the current state of the device. If you do a Backup/Hard Reset/Restore you will get back to exactly where you were when you did the backup. It won't add anything that was missing at the time of the backup.
As you say you had data on your PPC before removing the partnership, how did it get there- was the A/S partnership working OK previously?
To protect your data on the PC if you do get a successful partnership established, I'd do a backup of your Outlook file before syncing, as a precaution. In Outlook, go File>Import & Export>Export to File>Personal Folders File>select My Mailbox and tick 'Include Subfolders' ; the default is called BAckup.pst, which is fine.
I've sent you a PM

I was going to say exactly the same as Neil did, but he got there first.

Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
I am having a related problem.Windows mobile centre recognized my device fine but then I deleted the sync of outlook email ( why do I need it since I get my email through gprs) . Now when I attach my MDA III vista says this is an unknown usb device and won't sync. I have tried uninstalling a reinstalling windows mobile device centre but to no avail.I have also removed the sync relationship both in the device and on the PC. I also tried to restore outlook email sync but that didn't help either.
I can do as requested and hard reset my device and backup with sprite backup but won't the problem reappear since it doesn't recognize my device- because it will not be the same asthe device it is thinking it is synching with? Or do I have to hard reset and reinstall everything?

Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
Ooh- thats a tricky one! As you say, you could have a backup for disaster recovery, but of course using it might break any successful new partnership.
I suppose you could try a hard reset, new partnership and resync, then try a selective restore without the messaging and PIM items, but I've never tried that so don't know how successful it would be.
As above, make sure you back up the Outlook data file as well!
Cyclist: Yes, DVS_WiNdz and I had a PM dialogue, but I'm not sure how far he's got. I offered a 'workaround' for his data loss but understand that he manually re-entered his data then did a Sprite Backup before trying to decice further action!

Yes, if you restore everything, you will be back where you are now, so the device almost certainly will not be recognised.

I've done restore without messaging and PIM before, and the restore works fine, including restoring the partnership. But I don't know whether it has any effect on a partnership that had email in, since I've never synced email.
As I see it, devoncatt has nothing to lose by giving this a try, and it might work:
- Full Sprite backup
- Hard reset
- Restore the Sprite backup without messaging of any sort (not just email, SMS and MMS have to go as well)
- Delete the partnerships on both device and PC
- Now try to connect to create a new partnership, without syncing messaging
This stands some chance of working for you.
If it doesn't then you can either hard reset again and restore everything leaving you back where you started, or hard reset and re-build from scratch.

Yes- I think that's her best set of options!

If you do a hard reset, can you tell us if it worked or not? Thanks, I'm still trying to finding other solutions

Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
I am curious because I restored ( sprite backup) my mda III to before I had the sync problem and it is still not working. Vista is stating it is an unknown device. Why would we have to hard reset the device? Shouldn't there be a registry hack that told the wm6 to give the driver information or tell vista mobile centre that this is a new device without having to hard reset?
I ask this because in mobile5 and XP I made and broke the sync many times but it always was able to connect to my wizard- even if it couldn't sync to outlook.
I can't understand why unchecking a sync box for outlook email would cause this much problems.
Iwant to know is this a vista feature or a mobile6 feature ( bug)?
PS
I did a full restore with Sprite backup, I deleted the relationship on both devices . And the result was the same - unrecognized device.
Thanks
Rachelle

Re: htc kaiser tytn Iis not recognized by active sync
I think that is the dilemma- doing a hard reset/Restore will just copy back the problem; Doing a hard reset, and no restore may get back the ability to sync, but then you'd need to re-enter everything else manually.
This problem does seem to afflict WM5/6 and Vista more than it did ActiveSync, but there have been many reports of the same thing with XP and Activesync.
Before trying the hard reset (even as an experiment if you still have the backup file to use after checking whether the reset restored the sync process) have you tried forcing the system back to USB connectivity rather than RNDIS? This is in Settings/Connections/USB to PC and you should try unticking the box, then waiting a few minutes and doing a soft reset, the n retrying the connection. It can sometimes be worth plugging the cable a different USB port on the PC. Each USB port group maintains its own set of drivers, so a driver that fails on one port may well work on another.
